I was just wondering what everyone thought. I certainly dont consider my car a "ricer" but I have read in several forums (camaro, mustang, domestic cars) that imprezas are "ricers"

Just wondering if anyone embraces this?

and just for fun, urban dictionary's definition of "ricer."

(Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.

My car uses authentic Subaru parts, has no wing, and is in the same state as it was when bought new... so no. It remains a Japanese car though.

When i talk to my friends, i call just about any import including mine a ricer. My car is stock, i just call them ricers just because. Now there is a diffrence between 350Z, Supra, WRX STI, ricer... and a Civic, cavalier, corola ricer. We all know what it is.

I rock Hella Supertones, which according to brfatal, makes me a ricer :sadwave:

my car came with a ridiculous functional wing and I removed it.. My car came with a ridiculous functional hood scoop which has also been removed. I have very expensive wheels, brakes, engine, suspension, engine management, seats, paint, and all sorts of chassis/body bracing... I have not one sticker on the outside of my car...

Is it a ricer......................... Whatever.....

rex' are too sexy to be called ricers. if someone puts it in that class then thats their decision. subaru imprezas i believe should be put into the category of sports performance cars, unless its the base models, obviously... but i think that engine mods i.e (access port, downpipe, fmic, larger turbo, exhaust, up pipe b.o.v.'s, gauges to monitor your performance, and things like that dont make a car a ricer it makes it even more of a performance car to separate it from that kind of stereotype and if you want stickers on your windows and you have the parts go ahead who cares but if your going to do huge body kits that do nothing for your car except make it wide and low(looking) with a gargantuan wing cause you think its cool **** it do what you wnt its your car do what you want but sometimes moderation is needed, subaru = amazing except that hill start assist pisses me off sometimes. but i do think that ricers should include people who only do appearance stuff to their cars without doing any kind of engine mods or things to that nature you know, supertones are for safety so eff him :)

Considering the source.. Their pissy because its a japanese built car they cant beat in factory trim. So immediately to make themselves feel justified they group us with what they consider a "lesser" class of car and owner.

No, I wouldn't consider the Impreza or any subaru for that matter a "ricer". Not just because I now own one.. but because they just aren't and never have been.

IMHO "ricers" are tuner prefered cars that start out as plain old gas sipping econoboxes that people try (in most cases hopelessly) to improve performance where performance was never a original consideration of the car's design.

Second, Anything that will run a sub 14sec 1/4mi is NOT rice.. period. Especially a car that will do it unmolested right off the factory floor.

Takes the stang and camaro 4 more slugs to get the same job done and they're no where near as well built. (get under one or jack up a corner/open a door and you'll see what I mean). But hey, to a mullet toting fool those cars are the sheeeiiitt.

sheeeiiit is right buddy.. :rotfl: and it stinks.

when domestic oem's build a decent car I'll possibly consider buying one.

Now, to put things on even terms..(think like they do but other side of the fence) those "mullet magnet" domestics should all be crushed with exception to a small handful of well restored/custom engineered examples. Domestics have their share of "rice" modders too.. They just wont admit it because hell.. those 3 or 4 dead chevy's in the yard are going to run someday :screwy:.

If ya need bigger to be better.. your compensating

You sure about that? :confused1 As I recall, all rally cars (including the WRX) started as "gas sipping econoboxes" and were homologated for performance driving...

Why is that dumb? It doesn't really snow where I am and I don't use my Subaru for bad weather. Actually if it rains or is ugly it sits in the garage. If the car didn't handle better with awd in my opinion I would of made it rear wheel drive.

When I was in high school...

oh how those ricer cars looked so cool to me.
Integras and civics oh mah gawd!

I thought to myself. I wanna be king of all those ricers one day.

I then got a wrx. Win! :rotfl:

[edit]

oh yeah it came with all this extra stuff like awd and a functional hoodscoop. was pretty cool.

anyone who has ever heard a Boxer engine with exhaust has to know that any car that sounds that good is a long way from being rice.

Urban Dictionary: Ricer

Urban dictionary has exempted the WRX from "rice" in the above link ^ so the ruling is indisputable :rotfl:

IMO no stock car is "rice"... it's what is performed to the car that is considered rice. A Ford Mustang can be modded just as ricey as a Honda Civic. Personally, I use the word "rice" to describe significant mods that are simply superficial (i.e. tasteless body kits and loud exhausts that sound like someone punched a hole in your muffler). My buddy with a full header-back Invidia exhaust on his BASE civic... RICE :screwy:

I hit that link in your post just for kicks.. this is funny

then it says

Impreza Tail Lights
We know that style is important to you blah blah blah..

There are no products to list in this category.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

maybe I'm in a funny mood but that to me was funny.

As for mods to your car to avoid "riceyness" ... well, keep it simple, tasteful and functional. ;)

if it doesnt serve a purpose it doesn't need to be there. :D

Sadly living in Canada (North America) a lot of people have grown up with a very long history of powerful muscle cars and I find a lot of people look at any Japanese car and consider it a "ricer". This ranges from Civics to Acuras to Subarus.

Most of the time though I think its because the majority of these people have never even driven a performance car like a WRX or STI. Before owning one I really didnt know quite what they were capable of and ive grown up with European cars and hot hatches which can be the most surprising of vehicles!

I do carefully think to myself before every modification I do, "will this make it look ricer" and decide that it wont!!

To be honest though i think its quite easy to distinguish a "ricer" from a performance car. Its when you get some 17 yr old kid in his badly bodykitted Civic, Integra or even a WRX with a stupid exhaust and stupidly large wheels, stickers all over the place and a few cable ties holding it together and he tries to race you....... thats when you know........

youve got rice!!!

Except for the '08, of course, which was a complete neutered dog. Furthermore, I don't think the earlier models look ricer either, it's just that the new ones look more "tame", you know, for the "grown-up" crowd who likes a little Corolla styling with their speed.
