You are overthinking this. The stock unit will work just fine. Only time to consider replacing is if the stock one starts leaking. Especially at close to stock boost levels.
Well everything is changed to new, except the bypass valve, also the way I read it almost every stock bypass as some sort of leakage.

So your telling me keep the stock, pay for a dyno, and if it leaks your gonna be tunned with a leak, then change it and repay a dyno… that doesnt make sense.

I usually try to not dissasemble my car twice for jobs in the same area, so next time I am taking the inlet off, I wanted to change the bypass valve, I don’t want to take the chance, it’s old, I want to simply get that out of the way, replace it by an improved model.

Okay, knowing that context, I am also like you. I replace things while im there sort of thing. Cant really go wrong with any fully recirculating bpv. If its an adjustable one, your tuner will adjust it to where it needs to be.

Also, saying that every single stock bpv leaks is a bit of a stretch. There are hundreds, if not thousands of these cars tuned on the stock bpv. Not saying that it is not a common place for a leak because it happens.

Bottom line is that if you fear that your old unit may be leaking, just replace it with another fully recirc. one and call it a day.

Exactly, also I won’t remove the stock one to simply “test for leaks” and put back on, At that point I will simply swap it out for a better quality.

Im glad you got me there but the main question remains; I want to avoid getting an adjustable unit, because there is a model that doesnt adjust.

With my setup, that will be nerfed in whp anyways, I don’t think I would need an adjustable one, thus I am trying to avoid it because it makes one less thing to worry about tweaking.
I just wanted inputs from community so I don’t regret my choice

@Maximus1991 my argument is if it's not broke. Why spend money on an aftermarket unit that provides little benefit when that money could be used elsewhere.

Suspension bushings, ss brake lines, better pads and rotors, better tires, lighter wheels, short shifters and other things that can increase the driving feel of the car and offer a better performance impact than the bypass valve.

I totally understand your point, but I am a completionist, when I do something I do it from top to bottom.
When I did my Intake before the tune I changed everything except the bpv; TGV deletes, Turbo Inlet, EBCS, Catch Cans, Intake. When I did my Brembo, I also put SS lines, Brake Cylinder stopper, new fluid, Wheels, Tires.

Im about to do the same treatment within the next 2 years to my exhaust, replacing everything on my way.

Then it’s gonna be the suspension.
Funny enough I replaced all suspensions parts on my FXT before doing power stuff. But this time I feel great with the Rex the way it is so I going with my priorities.

I know it’s stupid, a big money pit, Im probably ill mentaly, but I can’t stop it.

I own a Jeep. In fact I've owned 5. You haven't entered the realm of mental illness yet. I keep buying these shitboxes and can't stop myself.

It is for the metal EJ BPV, but I'm not sure about the later models.
Yeah you are probably right. 98% of my knowledge is based around the EJ platform. I need to start digging more into the fa20 platform now that we have one in our driveway

Hey, (i own a 2015 wrx) new to the forum.
And I need some help.
I have a new mechanic telling me to replace my stock standard BPV (correct me if I'm wrong there) with an aftermarket BOV, it's been tuned etc with the stock standard. Bought the build off someone i still talk to about a year ago. Ran perfectly & took it too multiple mechanics, they said the build was well done and saw no issue with it or said that anything was overdone and going to cause problems out of the ordinary.

However I have been gradually losing that pop/bang sounds when upshifting and overall power from the boost for 6 months now and I can't figure out why.
Today did the smoke test and there are no leaks anywhere, he says its either replace it or go back to the tuner.
(For context) he took it out without confirming any of this with me, just took it out put some caps on and sent me on my way.. I get up to 77kmh on the way home and blew the cap to smithereens and was stuck in the middle of the road.
Told him to put the BPV stock part back in so I could get my kids home and whatever was wrong was better then this reckless solution cause it drove still pretty decent beforehand and had never caused me to breakdown.

So now I am stuck on what to do next. I just want the boost and BPV to do what it did when I bought the car, make the sweet pop bang sound and the car to respond while driving the way it did when i purchased it. Please help me figure this out???
Replace the stock standard BPV or talk to the tuners and hope they can finally figure it out and fix whatever the real issue is?

Thanks for using this thread.

Did you purchase a BOV or an aftermarket BPV?

There's nuance. A BOV wastes to atmosphere while a BPV bypasses the charge back to the turbo inlet (pre-turbo, post-MAF).
