I live in Oklahoma and am going to purchase a 2011 really soon but we only have 91 very very few 93 gas stations. So my question is how much safe RWHP can I make over stock with 91? Thanks in advance. CD

Well first off you wont have Rear Wheel Drive HP, it is an All Wheel Drive Car. And the average with a Stage 1 Protune on a 2011 Wrx is 270-282 AWHP and 295-302 WTQ. So go get it protuned and you will see a HUGE difference.

I was speaking to how much power he can make on 91 octane. As for mods affecting what your protune will cost, with some tuners they do. If you have excessive mods that require a lot more work to reign in, it's going to be more expensive than a standard stage 1 or 2 tune. In general anyways. If you're going to a tuner that charge a flat rate per tune regardless of how much work is being done, I'd consider a different tuner.

Your mods have nothing to do with how much a Protune will cost
Cody was probably answering the original question posed.

And actually, in some cases, modifications do alter the cost of a tune. A simple StageII tune can very often cost less than a car that's running a huge turbo, cams, etc.

EDIT: Cody beat me to the response :p

To get back to the original question, 91 isn't great gas, so the amount of safe power will be less than on 93. If you're going StageII or beyond, consider getting a meth kit to bump up the octane (more power / less knock). How aggressive you go with the meth tune will determine the margin of safety.

I have seen numbers that high. Go on nasioc proven bragging power there on there daily. Each car is different and can do more or else per stage. And NO mods do make a tune cost more i paid the same price EVERYTIME i opensource tuned my car which was 5 times

Id consider learning more about cars. Just because a tuner rips you off by charging more doesnt make him a good tuner. My tuner did great things with mine and was just had the Subaru of month on this Site. Bobby at PRE with his RWD Subaru monster.

I'd suggest the same to you, you seem to have a relatively narrow view of the tuning world so far. I'm not trying to dog on you or anything, mind you.

Just because your tuner charges a flat rate doesn't make him a great tuner either. For a first time tune with a lot of mods you can nearly always expect a higher price than a standard tune that will take fewer revisions. If you're a repeat customer, coming back with a new addition to be tuned for after having an initial tune done, THEN you can expect a lower fee. It's pretty standard amongst the tuning world to see higher prices for tunes for cars with a lot of new mods.

A simple setup should not take as long to tune as a complex one. If a shop chooses to charge an hourly rate for their tuning, they're "ripping off" the people with the more complex setups. If they choose to charge at a flat rate, they're "ripping off" the customers that have simpler ones. Pick your poison.

That said, I don't see a problem with either method of pricing. Some shops even have a flat-rate for simple setups, and hourly for more complex ones, for this exact reason.

Bobby seems like a good guy, and has tuned some nice cars. If I ever visit my friend out in Portland, I hope to stop by PRE to say "Hi" to him and Jennifer.

Okay I see where your coming Aub1s. I wasnt trying to fight or be a *******. I do agree with your last post a 100%. I have seen stage 2 2011 wrx's hit crazy numbers for stage 2 if you not hitting 300 plus its all in your tuner. Nasioc has a ton of 2011's on there doing great things on proven braggin power

I just looked throught the through the dyno plot and mods section and only saw 3 3g's that are "stage 2" 1 was at 296WHP 330WTQ but has a TMIC, one was higher (325/375) but was running E85, and the last was 235/246 so I guess I'm just not seeing it. I'm not a fan of nasioc so I'm not going to spend any more time than I have to there.

Or in the dyno used; a dyno that baselines a car @ 240whp will have an easier time hitting 300whp than one that baselines them @ 200whp :p
and this...
