Tire Rack Warning

A few days ago I placed an order with Tire Rack based on online recommendations. I was called within five minutes of the order being placed, very cool I thought. Tires show up two days later, great again. So I look at the tires and one tire has a gouge in one of the valleys about the size of a pencil eraser. I tried to email customer service with my complaint and some pictures of the damaged tire and the email was returned as undeliverable to jblanchard@tirerack.com. I then went through the sales email and repeated my story. I got no call so I called today and was told that they could get the tire replaced on Saturday if I wanted to pay some extra shipping charges. Otherwise I should have it on Tuesday of next week. What a joke. The hole in the tire was even marked by a faint white line directly corresponding with it and some sticky substance around the damaged area. The operator said that was probably UPS marking the area, another joke. UPS would not just mark a tire like that and not include the damage in their system notes.

Long story short is I would recommend not dealing with a company that asks for more money to correct a problem that they caused. I would recommend paying the small amount extra and buying tires locally. Overall I am very dissatisfied with the follow up service to a problem.

If anyone want to see the pictures email me and I will send them back, not sure how to post them easily here.

I'm sure it was an accident or mistake by someone in their warehouse, but shipping next day (especially a Saturday delivery) is very expensive and they probably have corporate rules against shipping stuff next day for free. I know my company has that rule in place, they just can't afford to ship stuff next day, it's too expensive.

Maybe ask them if they can meet you half way on the price or something. Otherwise, tell them to give you credit on the one tire, and go buy one locally so you can still get them installed this weekend.

That does suck.

However, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that "irritated" doesn't plan on posting much else here other than complaining about this vendor...

Yeah it is basically the end of the world when a long time internet vendor has one poor transaction amongst thousands of good ones.

I think its great that you guys are smart enough to judge me because of the screen name that was available. I tried about 10 diff combos of 06sti, 2006sti, etc. I guess that because you have had good experience with a company it is ok that they have caused me problems. Personally I dont need your approval for what I do or say, so thank you for your opinion. I have spent many hours over the last 6 months reading these boards and there is no stipulation that I comment (run my mouth as you have done) on everything that I dont agree with. If this company is so great dont you think that they would have some sort of inspection process so that they dont send out a damaged tire? Im sure you really dont care so flame on.

Actually we do care. Really. Many here (myself included) have had good experiences with Tire Rack. Your statement comes off sounding rather harsh. I can only guess how you approached them about the issue.

I would be interested to see the pics you might have.

Welcome to the Club! :) We really are a good bunch here.

One of the reasons that I have never posted is because of what has happened to this thread. I put out a statement of what happened and an opinion of how to avoid this happening to you and I am an "effin troll". At no point did i say "horrible" or jerks or anything like that. What I said was that I had great service untill there was a problem then there was no call to help me and now it will be at least 5 days to get a replacement.

I have read thousand of posts here and so often what I see is negative- you shouldnt drive that way, you shouldnt treat your car that way, you dont know what you are doing, you are an idiot, etc. That is the reason that I just read and not interact with people that hide behind the internet and pass judgements on what type of humans the other posters are.

Thank you for your time

Sorry you feel this way. You did come off sounding combative. This is a nice community that is quite n00b friendly. Try Nasioc to compare.

Let's examine this a bit.

First of all, they didn't refuse to fix your problem. Second of all, they didn't say that the only way they would take care of the problem was if you paid shipping, just if you wanted an express fix.

So, they offered to take care of you and offered to do it for free in a timely manner. What's your problem? That they aren't McDonalds? Are your old tires so bad that you can't wait a few days more to put on the new tires?

Jeez, things happen and it sucks when they happen to you. But this is just another case of "I want what I want and I want it now." Nothing more than a childish tantrum.

If you want it fixed for free, it'll take time (a few days, big whoop!). If you want it fixed now, it'll cost you.

As far as your username? You couldn't find something more appropriate than "irritated"? Did you try "whiner" or "crybaby"? I'm betting they were avaliable.

Sorry, man, I call 'em like I see 'em.

I'm forced to agree with e-merlin's assessment. They're agreeing to fix the problem in a few days time. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

You've actually been treated pretty well in this thread. It's actually quite natural to assume that a person who registered merely to post a complaint about a vendor is a troll. We get them frequently.

There are lots of polite conversations, and knowledgeable people here. I'm sure you could see that for yourself if you give this place a chance. ;)

man, i keep contributing to the hi-jacking of this thread, but really, what else is it good for?

It's basically guitar building and repair. I used to do quite a bit of it a few years back, but lots of players don't think they should have to pay much for the service if at all.

Besides, I'm a prima-donna artiste type and, at my age I just don't allow myself to do the kind of meticulous work involved unless I feel like doing it. If I can come up with the funding for some of the projects I have on the drawing board, I'll be inspired again, though.
