Best BOV to purchase

Hi all,

I was just on the hunt for a BOV for my MY03 Impreza WRX and wanted to know if there's any to stay clear from and what the most recommended one is?

Exactly what everyone else is saying. DO NOT buy an atmospheric blow off valve. Buy a recirculating one,also known as a BPV(bypass valve). Forge makes one of the best ones out there. An atmospheric blow off valve can and will damage your car after time.

BOV stands for Blow off valve. BPV stands for Bypass Valve. Honestly they are one in the same. Except for that a true BPV recirculates the surged pressure back into the intake before the turbo but after the MAF sensor. A BOV just vents said surged air to the atmosphere instead. They serve the same general purpose but as previously stated the only difference is where they divert the surged air to.

Contact them directly to be sure. However just to be clear: you do not need a valve of any kind. The car works great as is. There is no improvement.

I really don't like BOVs.
Unless you redirect atmospheric blow off, to look like Puff the Magic Dragon.
I would go forge recirculating BBV.
Just my opinion.

Not every turbo car has it. For example neither yours nor mine has it. To get the loudest possible sound you'd need to vent at least some of the air to atmosphere, but again, it's metered air, and in my view the tradeoff is simply not worth the hassle. You can consider what's called a snorklectomy, where you would remove a ~1L plastic "box" in the fender (look on the driver's side of the car where the intake tube goes from flat to rounder and enters the fender; on the other side of the fender there might be a box as I've described depending on the particulars of your model). Search for snorkelectomy or snorkel removal or delete etc. here for more info -- but reverse any "sided" directions because it's likely the author sat on the left side of the car to drive, whereas you do not.

This will make your intake noises a bit louder and you may hear the stock valve from inside the car. It should not affect metering at all so it'll maintain good manners when the car is running, when you shift, etc. Be aware of how water might affect the car with any changes you make, and strive to keep everything reversible should you change your mind, sell, etc.
