I have a 2013 WRX, 35,500 miles, everything is stock. I bought it used.
It will occasionally pop out of first gear while in stop-and-go traffic or driving slowly in a parking lot. It doesn't happen very often, but often enough to notice. The car is very close to 36,000 miles and even though it's certified pre-owned I didn't want to take any chances, so I brought it into the shop.
Dropped the car off, was called and told that they couldn't replicate the problem. I picked the car up and made it happen in the parking lot. Got a mechanic to ride along with me and got it to happen again. Got back to the dealership and the mechanic, service manager and a few other people had a pow-wow in their office for at least ten minutes. Eventually the service manager came out and told me that this is totally normal for modern transmissions - Synchromesh, high performance, modern transmissions, lots of buzzwords (He did ask if it happened in 6th. I told him no, this car only has 5 gears). I countered by saying I've had tons of manual cars and this has never been a problem, but it turns out that I don't know what I'm talking about. So I said thanks, got my car and left.
From browsing these and other forums, it appears that this is NOT normal. Please tell me if I'm mistaken.
So I have a couple options and wanted to ask youse guys - Should I just go to another dealer to get it fixed, or would I be better off contacting SOA first, before I'm blacklisted by all the Subaru dealerships in the area. And if contacting SOA is the best course of action, should I just try to find contact info via their website, or are there other avenues I can peruse? Thanks in advance.
