hey guys so i have a few question on what to do, im looking to get a 2007 subaru and use it eventually and eventually start racing on the track aswell, i was wondering if...

1)the transmission in the non sti is the same as the sti?
2)the turbo is the same size/same boost in the wrx as the sti?
3)the difference in motor quality, one stronger than the other?
4)the body/lights/exterior are the same?
5)the interior aside from sti seats and wheel are the same?

may have a few more questions later but if you could help me figure this one out first i'd appreciate it a lot and if you could list what's better on the STi, i know that the coilovers and something in the steering are better.

1. No.
2. No
3. Sti is better, hence why it costs more
4. Look up pictures of both, you can see the differences.
5. The shape of the interior is the same, the carpet/seats/steering wheel/switches, etc. all differ.

STI has - larger brakes, DCCD, much stronger transmission (6 speed vs 5 speed on WRX), stiffer more track oriented suspension, HID lights (I believe the premium version of the WRX comes with these but not base model), forged wheels (they are a very lightweight forged BBS wheel, which is nice), and a much more powerful output (I'm strictly talking about the 2007's for which you asked - and not getting into painful detail why, but we can if you want more info). The interior is much nicer with better bolstered seats (especially compared to the TR WRX, or base version).

If you are looking to keep the car that you acquire stock, I would highly recommend going with the Sti over the Wrx. The WRX could be "made" into what you are looking for, but would require a lot of money to get up to the track performance of an STI. You will want to search very hard though to make sure you find a specimen that has not been beaten into the ground. If you find anything you want us to check out just post up some links and we would be happy to give you our thoughts.

Good luck!

difference in power, why is that? is the engine the same just more boost or something than the turbo WRX? cause im willing to drop a couple grand if i were to get a WRX rather than an STi such as brakes, coilovers, seats, wing, steering, and turbo.

i just like the thought of a stock looking wrx with the quality of an STi in power and performance for racing and things, more of a sleeper kind of deal.

In 2007 both WRX and STI were a 2.5.

so is there a better turbo or more boost or what? and also in the body it really doesnt seem diffrent to me other than wings.
Keep in mind I am talking about hawk eye 2007 models here. Since we are only talking engine I will skip over the other benefits the STI offers, which for track, are really what make the STI shine...But engine wise, the STI has a water sprayed intercooler, which provides enhanced cooling capabilities. The STI comes with a reinforced semi-closed deck alloy block, forged high carbon steel connecting rods, resin composite intake manifold, and is carrying a different mapping set up. The WRX runs at 11.6PSI on the TD04L-13T turbo vs the STI's 14.5 PSI on the VF43 turbo.

The engines are virtually identical with a much smaller snail in the WRX (I'm still talking solely about the 2007). The suspension, transmission, and brakes alone account for the price difference.

Since this is the topic here. Isn't there a piston and compression difference? I was reading about ringlands failures a while back and came across a post somewhere showing a wrx piston and a STI piston and the dome was slightly different. Is that only later?
