absolutely NONE of the turbos listed in this thread need or even 'want' a FMIC....

IMHO, a 18G(regardless of hotside) is worthless on a 2.5L car considering a properly tuned VF43/39/34/30/etc will produce nearly the exact same power & torque.

 

you can find a vf 43 for like 6 or so new. i got mine for 6 havent installed it yet but cant wait. the vf 43 on came in the 07 sti due to the wastgate crack and all that ****.

 

i've got a vf23 thats getting sent to blouch in the near future for a 20g compressor wheel upgrade. Should be fun to see where she spools up with the p20 exhaust housing and the big wheel.

 

VF34 ftw! i luv the one in my scooby ... around 4000 it starts to go insane ... boost is @ 1.2 bar or 17.8psi

 

so today, my stock turbo peaked at .96 bar. I was surprised! lol

That turbo sound scares the crap outta me when it goes into insane mode!

I believe I read somewhere that the vf43 was installed in the 2007 STi's due to the fact that the vf39 in previous years' STi's were having a tendency to crack at the wastegate and the vf43 eliminated this problem.

Well my tune shop says this is a better turbo for me, its bigger and i already have the FMIC to support it. It spools 200 rpms slow but has much more top-end w/o lag

 

I think you might have misunderstood what we said about the VF39 and VF43. If purchased used for a good price, they are a great upgrade for budget minded guys with TD04's. Of course they are not the "best" turbo if price is less of a consideration. For $800-900 I'd rather go with a new FP 18g than a VF43. We actually happen to have a very lightly used 20g on consignment from a regular customer for about the same price. I REALLY like the 20g for guys with a 2.5L. Still great spool with a lot more power potential.

 

why not just get a vf-39 ?

for 8 to 9 hundred u can get a bran spanking new vf-34
