So I recently got a whole Exedy clutch kit installed on my 2010 wrx (69k miles). Then a noise started when no pressure was on the bearing. The mechanic tried to apply thicker grease, worked for a whole 2 weeks. There is a tad bit too much play between the bearing and the shaft now, due to me beeing stupid and not fixing the damned TOB earlier.

Now I am forced to get the car back in the shop and have the snout (input shaft section where the TOB sits) repaired, with a sleeve or something.

Anyone have any experience with such repairs? Things to know / look for? Which brand of sleeve kit to look for? Good price for one? I want to be as much prepared / informed before I give my car to the mechanic this friday.

Thanks fellas.

edit: these video explain my issue pretty much:

I havent seen the amount of wear of that part myself, but i have a feeling its less than in the video, but still enough so that, after 20 minutes of driving, the heat expands stuff and the noise starts (high pitched squeal)

edit 2: found this, not sure of they ship to canada. and My tob is new, not sure if its the cheapest sleeving method available, ill post as I find stuff on Google. http://www.fastwrx.com/collections/...drivetrain/products/transmission-snout-repair-kit-2-0-turbo-2-5-turbo-pull-type

Well I didnt evenneed to install that kit after all. Mechanic found the problem, the slave cylinder needed ajustment. it was loose at the fork and squealing.

Kinda pissed he didnt see it the first time, but its fixed now. FINALLY.

UPDATE:

The issue was the Exedy Throwout bearing that came with the kit I bought. Had to buy an OEM bearing @ Subaru, re-open the trans case and swap it. There clearly was small gap between the Exedy bearing and the shaft, compared to the OEM one, which fit much more precisely (diameter).

So to anyone planning to do a clutch swap, and decide to go for Exedy, which I still recommend...I suggest you buy an OEM throwout bearing at your local dealership and toss the Exedy one.

At first I thought the transmission snout was damaged and its diameter was reduced a tiny bit, but after measuring it I realised it was on spec. So the TSK 3 wasn't necessary, plus it's a 250 $ part for us canadians, compared to a 50 bucks OEM bearing which I could get immediately..
