I'll need tires soon and was wondering if you guys thing it would be ok to move up to a 55 series tire.
I don't mind if it raises the car some and I think they may give it a little better ride.

I'm 62 and this car will be going to my grandson in a year or so but in the interm the wife and I use it as a third car..speaking of her I been eyeing up her new tiger paws that are 225-55-17:D

Thanks !

Going up to the 55 profile at that width will add 20.5mm (.8") to diameter and 10.25mm (.4") to vehicle height. If maintaining cornering performance is not the goal, this raise should be fine. My winter tires raise my car slightly more than this. If it is a permanent change, an alignment would be in order after the switch........

Well it seems there are not many tire choices at Tire Rack for the 205-55-17..but there are a lot of choices for 215-55-17.

Would the 215-55-17 still be ok?

The car for the next year or 2 would mostly just be a cruiser ..no high speed cornering or anything like that..but I'm looking for a little smoother ride that higher sidewall tires seem to give.

Here is what I'm thinking..I like the price!
BFGoodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S

Oh the car might see a little winter driving if one of are other cars might be down.

EDIT: Would 215-50-17 be a better choice?

Here's a quick calculator if you want to see the differences:

Thanks!
Real handy!

I think I would be fine with the 215-55-17

1.2" overall but cut that in half for clearance..seems like still plenty of room!
Thanks again guys!
I guess the tire choice is suitable it seems.
Good reviews for wet/dry/handling and some snow.

Yeah it's a 2008. Good catch!
Good to hear all would be good on my stock rims..thanks!

The car is really handling nice now that I put the moog end links and energy bushings in the front sway bar...both you can grease.
It really did make a huge diff. I thought my struts were bad but after what i did the wishy washy feeling is gone!
I just bought it a few weeks ago.

So did you change the struts or just put the pinks in and the pinks lowered it?

Been reading alot and it seems the koni inserts are a good way to go...if I did that with the pinks would it stay close to stock height?

I was thinking about rce blacks or the king springs but if the pinks are really good and keep it clost to stock height I might go that way in the future if they need to be changed out.
That all said the grandson would not mind some drop..lol.

EDIT: I clicked on the link and now see that the pinks lower it some..not bad though..price seems good for a subie part!

They're a little pricey admittedly. I did nothing else except change to lighter/wider wheels and it made a fantastic difference.

I hope I can post this here but sinse you have a 08 what do you see for boost?

I have a scangauge II and I don't know if it's acurate but the most i see is 7 lbs.

Cruising at 65 it's showing -2.

The car seems fast enough ..I only ran it up to 100 once and it got there pretty quick and I know it has a lot more left.

Runs, shifts, and idles great..no complaints there.
I even got 30 mpg on a 120 mile trip..mostly all open x-way...5 or 6 stops altogether.
Car stops great also compared to other subies I have had.

It has 133k on it but the HG'S,water pump, timing belts were all done at 100k with the clutch.

I believe the stock peak was 11.x (wanna say 11.6?). I had my protuned for a daily driver friendly 16.9 peak. (stage 1+ / 191 WHP & 260 WTQ) It handled it just fine and made a huge difference...took away a lot of the lag and gave me much better off the line acceleration. I managed 31MPG once on a road trip from Michigan to Alabama AFTER my tune.
