I just moved to Florida from Elgin, Illinois, which is about 20 minutes from Chicago.

Just a heads up, Ive know quite a few people who have gotten pulled over because of their tints. They dont always get tickets though, mostly warnings. If you get pulled over in Illinois tell the cop they're factory lol.

 

Thanks for the reply. I kind of figured it was very possible to be harassed over the tint on the front windows. It really bites, because I wanted to get them tinted, but go to IL fairly often, so probably not worth chancing.

 

They can't ticket you for tint if it's legal in your state. Quite a few people around here have out of state plates for that reason. That doesn't mean you wont get hassled though.


As far as IL and tint laws go, tint may very soon be legal on the fronts. The bill has already essentially been passed, but needs modification before being made law. Check out the link below.

That varies by state. In California, if you are driving on CA road then you must adhere to CA laws. That means that they can give you ticket for your tint even if your car is out of state.

I live in Southern WI, and frequently go to IL. I looked up the laws for IL and you can't have a tint by law on your front side windows. I would like to get a tint according to the law in WI, but, it would be illegal when I went to IL. Has anyone had any experience with getting pulled over in IL for a tint issue? I don't really want to chance it if there is a possibility.
