TGV's are an emission control device...plain and simple.

The only con is you shouldnt remove them without a tune...and if you dont delete the CEL you'll get a CEl if you gut them.

 

I believe the TGV's like the UP are for start up emissions only...I could be wrong.

 

Nope 100% right.There are two ways the TGV delete can be done.Total removal- where everything is removed, including the sensors and rods, or where just the divider plate and throttle plates are removed leaving the rod and sensors intact.Total removal requires a tune to overcome the CEL's/DTC's and if the rod and sensors are kept then no tune is really needed unless you are having major problems with cold starts.This can be tuned out by changing the cold start enrichment parameters in the ECU.

 

I removed mine and left the rods in. No codes yet and it runs fine. I hear that cold starts are sometimes a problem but it rarely gets below freezing down here.

 

so for you veterans of the WRX, i have AccessTUNER (bascially streettuner) and can turn off CELs.

Do you think it would be worth my time to go in there and bascially tear all the TGV equipment out, and port it at the same time?

I have the tools to do it, so no problems there, i just dont want to screw something fragile up.

now if i just take out rod and plates leaving the sensor(so i dnot need a tune just yet) and not grind out the piece that divide the main holes will i see the same gains or any gain at all?

Did you end up getting a tune? Or did you see any benefit from them w/o a tune? The thing is, I want to do them, but don't want to drop $400 on a pro-tune yet until I rack up a few more mods: VF39, injectors, TMIC, etc etc

 

You should tune for them to see full gains
