I was just wondering what stage 2 sti's make on the dyno and what would take a wrx{02-05} to beat it.

Ya, that's a very generalized question. According to Cobb website a stage 2 cobb exhaust w/ AP map tune will get you 50 extra HP, so 355 hp x .8 (for losses) = 284 whp. BUT thats just cobb's exhaust and there are many mix and matches, as well as tuning which is a whole other thing in itself, as well as wrxtreme06 said, a ton of other variables such as dyno performance. As for your WRX question I'd say the answer is: ALOT. Turbo swap, full exhaust, protune, to start, and probably some other things. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as alot of the folks around here but that's just a general answer for you. Hopes this helps!

You didn't specify what year STi
the question cant really be answered 100%. dyno numbers will vary because every dyno will read differently & every stage 2 tune will be a little bit different (opensource, OTS maps, etc).
+1 plus each car will have slightly different results.

My stage 2 04STi (catless turbo back & EcuTek) dyno looked like this.

and what would take a wrx{02-05} to beat it.
beat it at what? Peak numbers on a dyno? There is a lot more to performance then simply peak numbers.

My 06STi made 304WHP/338WTQ on a Dyno Jet. But as everyone here has said, there are a lot of things that you have to factor in. Dyno Jet and Dyno Dynamics are going to show a huge difference in numbers. Either way, you shouldn't go into modding to "beat" an STi. It's not about the numbers dude, its about getting the car to the point that you are happy. A dyno is only a tool.

On a track? It would take a LOT. Wheels, tires, brakes, suspension..... LONG list.

I'm assuming you're referring to a 1/4 mile drag race at the track... because if you're looking for streetracing advice... I'd have to call you a douchebag. So we'll just say you're looking for 1/4 mile times, ok?

:)

Stage 2 STI should produce around the 290-310 whp, depending on quality of tune, elevation, mods, etc..... and run somewhere in the neighborhood of 12.8 - 13.2... again, depending on mods.

An 02-05 WRX, with a Walbro 255, a set of 850cc injectors, a full TBE, a 20G turbo (minimum)... and a PROPER tune should do the trick. Of course, much depends on the driver....

..... and how long you're transmission lasts.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a VF39ed 02 WRX on e85 beat a stage two STi in 1/4 mile. HP for HP the WRX is going to be faster hands down. How much more does an STi weigh? (IIRC ~300lbs, which is about .3 seconds in 1/4 mile)

The WRX 5mt gear ratios are also much better suited to 1/4 mile than the six speed. That is if you can keep the teeth on the gears in the first place.

Someone on nasioc ran a 12.4 with an 02 WRX and STOCK turbo.

With a 20g and all supporting mods youll mop the floor with a stage 2 STi in the 1/4, but like everyone is saying the wrx is gunna break its tranny while doing so. 12.4 on stock turbo.. jezz, thats insane. Most drivers havent been to a track ever so on a 1/4 the cars gunna dissappoint you if you have a specific time in mind, because the driver mod is about the best one in a drag race. It takes a few passes to learn how to launch a wrx right on a track also, tire pressure and elevation play big parts in the times also. I didny buy my wrx to drag it tho, so better question is what would it take for a 02-03 to beat a 04-05 sti in a time attack. Theres where all the wrxs flaws start to show big time.

That was the point....

an 18G may beat a stg 2 STI..... but it may not.... it would be close.

a 20G should do the job nicely... that's why I picked that turbo (as a minimum), considering the .5 liter deficiency that an 02-05 WRX is starting out with.
