Hi everyone. I have a 2016 WRX stage 2 with just over 81,000 miles which has ran great until this spring. Had the exhaust done from the turbo back, Deletes, air filter and pro tuned at 35,000 miles. In the last year Subaru put new spark plugs in, installed a A/O separator and turbo pump restrictor. Started noticing smelling smoke when I would stop, I'm a windows down guy when I can. Then it seemed like I lost about 10% of power and feels like something it holding it back. I'm no mechanic the closest I experienced to this is when I had a catalytic converter get clogged in a previous car. Have been known to let the tank get pretty low before getting 93 filled, fuel filter maybe? Any ideas would be appreciated. Planning on getting a front mount intercooler installed next spring if I can get this figured out.

Thanks, Todd

What Air/Oil separator do you have? I have the IAG comp series which has a vent tube that you can sometimes smell a oily/smoky smell from. This is normal. So if you have that AOS or one similar that vents to atmosphere, that would more than likely be your verdict.

Yes I have the IAG also and wish I would have installed it sooner maybe when I went stage 2 or soon afterwards. I started getting the smells and extra smoke before I had the ports walnut blasted and the air oil separator installed. That was the main reason I had that done like I said I probably should have done it sooner.

Well it has not been very long at all since I had the perrin turbo sump restrictor installed. Not noticing as much smoke now but before I installed the restrictor I would say I was having both, smell inside and not heavy smoke but noticing smoke from the tailpipes. There be times where I would turn the car off and notice the tailpipes are smoking for a good I don't know 30 seconds after being turned off. How often do you think the gaskets on the exhaust should be replaced?

Any new parts on the exhaust? I would suspect the turbo parts upgrade could be the verdict. Maybe a light smoke for the first few hundred miles is normal? IDK. I would call and ask the shop that did the job. But I am just thinking, any time you put a new exhaust on, you burn off the oils and stuff in the pipes for a short period until the exhaust is "broken in".

Sorry I tried to give you as much information as possible. Actually the exhaust was done in 2017 when I had the car go to stage two and protuned. Have had some of the exhaust gaskets already replaced once by a recommendation of a friend. Thanks for your help I'm just going to save up a little here and take it back to the tuning shop, TPG tuning they're out of export PA. Like I said the car ran great or at least I was very happy with it until this spring first I noticed a little bit of more smokes smell engine smell and now it's lost like 10% of its power and it just seems like it's struggling at times slow response.

Thanks to everybody who replied to my post. Got it checked out at the tuning shop yes it turns out my turbo is going bad and they have ordered a refurbished new one I guess it has some better internals but should be fixed soon. Can't wait until I get it fixed and she's back to her old self. Maximus you are right but also thanks to everybody who replied back. Todd
