Hi,

I have been working with multiple Subaru dealership for a 2020 STI Base with no options. So far the best deal that I have been offered is $34,870. This is just the price of the car and not including tax, tags/dmv and document fee.

Both KBB and Edmunds invoice price shows $35,860 and for TrueCar Excellent Price is anything under $35,396. I know that if I compare what I am getting offered is better than KBB, Edmunds and TrueCar.

I wanted to know what you all think if this is a good deal or if I should keep on looking to see if I can get anything lower than $34,870.

Thank you,

I was able to get the OTD pricing that includes the Tax, Tags and $395 Document Fee.

Here is the final OTD:
$34,870 (Car Invoice) + $2,963..95 (CA Tax 8.50%) + $395 (Doc Fee) = $38,228.95.

I found a local Subaru dealership close to where I live that is offering me $38,766 OTD. The other offer that I got for $38,228.95 OTD is from a dealership outside of my state.

I wanted to know if the $38,766 OTD is also a good deal and if its better to go with this then the out of state one as I will need to get it shipped. I was informed by the out of state dealership for shipping cost would be between $800-$900.

When my friend bought his Forester, he found every Subaru dealership within 200 miles. He compiled a list and got the email address for every internet sales department. He knew the exact price he wanted to pay, truly out the door, which wasn't unreasonable. He sent an email to every sales department and heard back from a couple of them who bit on the deal. He took a train to one of the dealerships with a certified check and drove home with the car. It works better if you're paying cash, or have a loan lined up. This is what I plan on doing with my next car. Just don't be unreasonable.

Here is a breakdown between the 2 dealerships (Bay Area California and out of state)

Bay Area California Subaru Dealership 2020 STI Base Model Crystal White Pearl no options
Selling price: $35129.98
CA Sales tax: $2993.27
CA license fee: $557.75
Documentation: $85.00
Grand total: $38766.00

Out of State Subaru Dealership 2020 STI Base Model Crystal White Pearl no options
:
Selling price: $34,870
CA Sales tax: $2,963.95
Documentation: $395.00
Grand total (without Shipping): $38,228.95
Shipping: $800-$900
Grand total (With Shipping): $39,028.95 - $39,128.95

I also have a $500 Ambassador Subaru coupon that I can use.

I am leaning towards going with the Bay Area California Subaru Dealership.

What do you think?

I think you need to reach out to more dealerships, as I suggested. You're really limiting your options and both dealerships are going to price their cars similarly in the same market area. Some dealerships may also work in deals on add-on options like front lips, tint, "carbon fiber" trunk trim etc.

Unrelated: 2 options I wouldn't live without in the 2018 plus are the Recaro seats and short throw shifter. My 2015 had standard seats and my 2018 has the recaros. They're phenomenal compared to the standard seats and they also look cool as hell. The interior feels a lot more race car'ish. Pay the extra money if you're interested.

There is another Bay Area Subaru dealership that is offering me $34,399 for the car and $37,905.89 OTD. So far out of the 17 dealerships Iv reached out and got quotes. This is the best one so far!

Eh. It doesn't seem bad. But, I think I paid 40 flat OTD:
Recaros
Front Lip
Rear Carbon Fiber Trim
Auto Dimming Mirror
All weather Liners
Short shifter
Body side moldings (which I would never have thought would make the car look so much better)
Window Tint at the Dealership (so easy I'll never 'not' do this again)

Granted, I live in the St. Louis area. If you've spent this much, maybe you can work with them on some options. They have some leeway on them and it might make you feel like you got a better deal. Come to think of it, out of my three WRX's, I've never had any luck more than shaving some pennies off of the base price. BUT, if you're already stretched for cash on your current deal I wouldn't go that route and I'd seriously consider a higher end WRX.

Have you considered other cars? I feel like the Type R has more options overall for less money. The Mustang GT is also in the price range and it has a lot of balls.

Good luck, bro.

I narrowed my search down to 2 Bay Area Subaru dealerships after negotiating with 17 dealerships. Just when I was planning to put in an order I was emailed from one of the dealership that SOA Distributor has currently paused from accepting new orders. Below is the message that I got.

SOA Distribution is continuing to monitor the situation surrounding our supply chain in light of the effects of the coronavirus.
Because we are currently unable to inform customers of an exact delivery date of a new order, the sold order system has been temporarily shut down. We will reopen the sold order system once we can better determine future production and allocation schedules.

I confirmed the above with the other dealership.

Due to this recent development, one of the dealership does have a 2020 STI in Crystal White Pearl Option Package #2 however it comes with Sport Performabce 1B and Popular Package #1. Below is the breakdown of the quote both the MSRP and how much the dealership is offering me.

MSRP Breakdown:
2020 STI Crystal White Pearl: $36,995.00
Sport Performance 1B (STI Short Throw Shifter, Shift Knob): $668.00
Popular Package #1 (Mirror Compass w/homelink, Center Armrest, Cargo Tray, Bumper Applique Sedan, Wheel Lock Kit): $797.00
Standard Destination Charge: $900.00
Total Vehicle Price: $39,360.00

Dealer Cost Breakdown:
2020 STI Crystal White Pearl: $34,960.00
Sport Performance 1B (STI Short Throw Shifter, Shift Knob): $484.00
Popular Package #1 (Mirror Compass w/homelink, Center Armrest, Cargo Tray, Bumper Applique Sedan, Wheel Lock Kit): $516.00
Standard Destination Charge: $900.00
Total Vehicle Price: $36,860.00

I wanted know if the Dealer Cost is a good deal? If not, is there room for me to bring this down further? How much others have paid
with similar package? Lastly, should I just wait for SOA Distributor to reopen there orders?

Thank you,
