Resonator

There is a mixed opinion about this but leave the snorkle and cut the resonator box off. as you look at the box from the side you will see it looks tike a T piece with a box at the bottom. Cut the box part off so that the airbox and snorkle is still conected car sounds bit "Sportier"

also, some people decide to buy the 40 dollar elbow to plug up the opening, however i've ran mine open for a whole year without any issues. (theres sort of a debate on this)

if you feel uncomfortable leaving it open, i would suggest getting the elbow but once again, its not needed.

 

I have never seen the elbow in person. If you do decide to get the elbow, make sure you drill a hole in the bottom if it doesn't come with one already. If you look at the silencer, there's a hole to allow water to drain out. Also, because it's smaller, you'll need to clean out any rocks/leaves that get in more often.

I've run mine without the elbow/silencer, without issues for a while now as well (however, I have a custom ECU map)

 

I have run mine w/o it for awhile now and no problems. And I think the car sounds much better now

 

sorry for asking, the silencer....it that the box looking thing with the hole on the bottom attached on the air intake? its black and is box looking thing? i wanted to do a custom air intake....so if i just remove all the hoses and stuff from the filter back, and attach a hose that gets air from the front bumper,....would that work?

That's the silencer/snorkus, yes

You remove the piece from the fender well - there should be nothing else to this mod

The piece you're removing should look like that (without as many holes) ^^

and by "work well" it honestly doesnt do anything other than make a whole bunch of whooshing noises when youre boosting. :wiggles:

In South Afrikan english it sounds KAK on stock WRX or STI like a dump valve on a stock car. I say nay nay nay!!

 

The 2008 Impreza 2.5i and WRX have a snokus or snorkle in inside the front bumper. much easier to take out then the older subarus. just unbolt ur airbox and take it out. remove the snorkel and mold some fiberglass down there so water, snow and dirt wont fly up thru that crappy plastic and put ur intake down there
