I just bought an 06 WRX and the thing is near perfection. The only glitch is that damn seat belt chime that goes off every 15 seconds.:screwy: I'm a strong believer in seat belts but i usually take more than 15 seconds to get situated. Anybody know how 2 disable it?

come on guys the seatbelt chime is by far the most ridiculous idea yet. yeah, so it'd be dumb not to put on a seatbelt. doesn't justify the chime.

unless you wanna start defending the lane departure warning system as well. that way, every time you change lanes without using your turn signal, you'll get a beautiful chime for the lifetime of the car.

this is supposed to be a free country; i have the right to be a damned idiot if i want to be.

in that case, you should get a smack across the face and a ticket in addition to the chime imo

Wait im confused. In the 06s if you start the car it tells you to put on your seatbelt? Or does this only happen if you arent buckled in and you start moving? If it happens when the car isnt moving that is annoying as hell but if you are moving put the damn belt on.

If you start the car without the belt on, without moving, it will chime for a while, like most of the newer cars. Annoying as hell, and it's not going to make anyone put a seatbelt on.
For the rest of us who wear a belt all the time, what's the point?

Well if thats the case, stupid Subaru. I could see it as a reminder to people or just annoying people, who dont put it on while driving, to put it on. If it goes off while not moving thats just wrong.

Trust me the 06 seatbelt ding is so stupid. Once you start the car it starts to beep 5 times, pause 15 seconds and beep again 5 times....this will go on until you buckle up. I dont have a probaly wearing a seatbelt as I always do, but in the winter I let my car warm up. I dont always enjoy wearing a seatbelt while warming up the car and getting my cd's loaded. It would be fine once you started moving to beep like most cars, but you cant even sit in it while it's one without the seatbelt. I tried to disable it twice with no such luck...i got tired of trying......but I'll get it one day.

Buckle your seatbelt before starting the car?
Like said above I have several different tasks/duties I do while warming up the car in the winter time....It's more of a hassle then anything

I am totally with you 302, the stupid seatbelt chime drives me nuts. I never warm up the car unless I need to remove snow from it. I usually get in and drive away.

Did yall know that we have those seat belts that have a propellant inside the houseing. Im not exactly sure about everything. But there was something about it in the owners manual

I dono if its in all subaru cars but i have an 05 sti. and thought this was very cool

>Get in >Start car >Put seat belt on >Take seat belt off >Get situated >Put belt back on.

This thing is kind of annoying but I was in a bad habbit of not wearing mine before I got my rex and now I always do. Its a good thing I think but if you cant stand it just buckle it then unbuckle it.. no more chimming.

i ALWAYS put on my seatbelt, but i hate that its only 15 secs and it goes on as soon as the key is in. Since its winter, i usually turn the car on to warm it up and get my self situated and put on some music and what not and then i put the seat belt on right before i'm about to put it into gear and start driving.
thanks for the disabling trick, im about to do it right now

living now in sunny california I havent had this issue, but a year ago I was living in the cold and snowy north east and I was driving an old acura, that had a seatbelt warning as well. here how I solved it....

I have not checked in the wrxs but in the acura the seat belt chime was set by a wire that came out of the bottom of the seat, if you take this wire out, and hook it up to the passenger seat (which was not connected to anything in the acura) then you buckle the passenger belt... it thinks your buckled in...

no clue if this would work on our car, or what it would do to the side airbags...

It's not, and no you don't. As long as people hold corporations responsible for their own stupidity, the warnings will only get more annoying, obnoxious, and prevalent. Freedom has been forfeited one stupid person at a time.

Sad but true.

The trick to enable it must be done in this order.....or you're life will be in alot of agony. CPU, once tricked, cant be a huge headache to to fix.

You will need:
A pen
Peice of Paper
1/4 drive set
Possiable a screwdriver
Your ignition key
And a good set of hands
A wrist watch or cell phone with time clock on it

Step one: You must have your car either on on ignition set on the "on" switch. Wait for the radio to come on. Hit selector #1 which will go to your first preset. MAKE SURE YOU RIGHT THIS ONE DOWN. After completing that repeat that step till all of your 1-6 presets are wrote down.

Step two: While in the car pull the hood latch

Step three: Disconnect the battery terminals and wait a few seconds, if you get bored feel free to push the brake pedal down a few times

Step four: Reconnect the battery terminals

Step five: (Read over step one) Now take that peice of paper and put all your presets back into the radio

Step six: Look at watch and reset the clock in the car

Step seven: Wait of ultra annoying beep to start back up the second you put the key in.

why did most of you jump so hard on this guy who asked that question??? :unhappy: :thumbdown
It's not like he doesn't wear it, it's just he puts it on before he starts driving. Hell it will be annoying for me too to hear some stupid bong when you don't have seatbelt on. I also put my seatbelt on before i move or right after that, so what?? If you want to seat in your seatbelt before you put your keys into ignition, fine, but don't jump on someone who doesn't. :unhappy:
My REX for some reason doesn't show the seatbelt light when i have it off  and i know it used to before. But i have no problem with not having seatbelt light :wiggles:
