Clutch switch ( starter enable) bypass?

We all know, no oil pressure is a bad thing for bearings. Why does the new VB require max clutch pedal pressure before you can push the engine start button?
The poor thrust bearings on the crank must be thinking... wtf Subaru?
So I stuck my head under the dash to eyeball this arrangement. There is clutch switch at top of the pedal and another at the bottom of the pedal's travel. I know the lower switch is crank enable, what does the top switch do? It does not disable cruise control.
It would be nice to disable or bypass this "clutch in" requirement on startup. A simple neutral check would suffice for all, but Subaru's legal department.
Anyone else consider this or have a solution to prevent premature thrust bearing wear?

You just met the love-child of legal & accounting. Dumb fuck juice +litigation gives us clutch start. Bean counters refuse to let engineering install a neutral position sensor inside the gearbox.

That one sensor would allow us to have a neutral start AND remote start on manuals so we don't boil in summer. But nooo, that's too expensive, so we get 2 clutch sensors which probably cost the same.

Bottom clutch sensor is for crank enable. Top is for gear position. When the pedal is fully released, gauge cluster guesses your gear based on wheel speed & engine rpm.

There is a neutral position switch in the manual transmissions, at least in my 2021 VA. It's part of the cruise control system. The cruise control system won't engage when in neutral and will disengage if you power shift without using the clutch. The switch gear position is also for cruise control.

Nope, I have the same one & I went through the shop manual and parts diagram multiple times. There's no position switch inside gearbox other than reverse for the camera.

Cruise control disengages because it compares engine rpm to wheel speed and realizes something is off. Also if you powershift without clutch, you won't have a gearbox eventually.

I had to look up the term "powershift" and of course someone has an analysis on youtube.

Off topic, but interesting and now i have learned something new.

I'm pretty sure the parts diagram and shop manual are confusing wrx & STi gearboxes. The parts diagram shows those sensors on the front end. I found some pictures of the wrx trans:

There are no electrics anywhere other than the one reverse sensor. The STi gearbox has more wiring so it's possible that it has neutral sensor.

Ideally it would be an either/or situation. Press clutch or put in neutral to start. Easy enough to do.

2024 WRX TR Neutral safety switch!
So double redundancy. Wonder if the clutch switches are regular No/Nc 12v digital inputs or low voltage low current inputs that will cause trouble if you mess with them.

Here is one of silver_scooby's pictures with the locations of the neutral and reverse switches shown (based on Subaru's parts diagram).

From the wiring diagrams, the clutch cruise control switch provides 12V to the ECU when closed, while the neutral switch provides a ground. The clutch start switch provides 12V to the starter relay when closed.

So i could pull the start enable switches connector and jumper the contacts to close the circuit. This will put it in a start enable state always (without having to depress the pedal all the way to the floor).

Is the neutral switch part of the starter circuit or strategy?

Also does the engine ECU disable the starter when the engine is running?

Interesting I'll have to look again. Last time I checked I saw the reverse switch in the position you've shown it. No neutral switch. Ideally a neutral switch should allow for remote start on manuals with the oem parts.

That location is also right at the back next to center diff, not sure how you could possible get a neutral position reading there.

Is the neutral switch part of the starter circuit or strategy? - No, it's only part of the cruise control system.

Also does the engine ECU disable the starter when the engine is running? - Yes

Do you have access to the wiring diagrams for a 2024 TR? Trying to learn how this integrates with the new eyesight system. - No, I only have the diagrams for my 2021 VA.
