camaro LT1 vs pretty stock STi

This guy kept egging me on! He made a U-turn when he saw me sitting at a light going the opposite diretion. Proceeded to go 10 mph below 45 WAITING for me to change lanes. Needless to say I didn't bite... yet.... for about 5 blocks.

I finally had it and gave him a couple of runs. The Sti held him off from a roll several times, putting about 3 car lengths each time before we shut down. Got to a stoplight and told him that it was fun but i've had enough since my detector is starting to go off. He wanted one more run from a stop? :confused1

Ya, it wasn't pretty for him. Pull into a side street and chatted. He told me it was a 93 camero with intake and exhaust. They refuse to believe me that my STi was pretty much stock (aside from the missing muffler with the Sti tip still on. They were truly impressed with my car. Cool domestic guys that have respect for this innocent looking 4 door. Who would've thought eh :eek3:

Edit: CamAro

thats rare, but cool. seems like a lot of people are quite removed from the overall performance field, esp imports. i have yet to really race anyonein my STi, just some revs and looks. since i've gone spoilerless i get some doubletakes, but no revs.. hehe.. sleeper. :)

wow, a cool domestic guy, particularly a camaro owner is a very rare occurance. Good job handing it to him, I thought he would have to have some mods because I dont have much trouble putting distance on the stock one's in my stageII

Whats the difference between a LT1 and LS1?
Short answer:

LT1 was in use from 93-97. Rated at 275-305 hp from GM, dynoed around 250-260 at the wheels stock. Good for low 14's to high 13's in stock trim.

LS1 is aluminum and in use from 97(C5), 98-2002 in V8 Firebirds and Camaros. Rated at 305-345 hp from GM. Dyno around 295-315 at the wheels stock. Good for high 13's to low 13's and rare dip in the 12's in stock trim.

I know many Camaro and TransAm owners who give plenty of respect to the WRX's... :)

Mark you should be able to pull LT1s all day long (provided they aren't heavily modded).

I'm just stage 2 and pulled an LS1 on the highway pretty hard. went from about 60 to 100 and I was about 2 cars ahead by shutting down.

now....if an LS1 starts modding....we're screwed. :sadwave:

Its kinda funny if we put ourselves in the spectator's shoes....

When I lined up against him going west at the stoplight, the people going north and south at the stoplight prolly imagine this mean looking/sounding camaro reving will eat the-odd looking 4 door alive.

The expression on their face must be pricless when they see our STi's take off like a bat out of hell and leaves this mean sounding camaro in the dust and continues to pull :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'd like to witness that someday.....

13.9 isn't too bad for a 10 year old car
My 17 year old supra ran a 13.9@103 with a full exhaust that i got for $500 and a boost controller i made out of parts from home depot for $35 with 180k miles on the turbo and motor, never rebuilt :)

It isnt bad for a 10 year old car. But he has low miles under 60,xxx and he paid about 1500 bucks for headers to exhaust, plus other mods he has done. I would think with an engine around 275hp and the v8 he would run a much better time, maybe low 13's.

My friend has a 94 camaro z28 lt1, lightly modded, he only runs a 13.9. I thought theyd be much faster cars(weight and torque). But thats sweet you showed one what an STI could do.

That sounds similar to a guy I know he has a 97 with 60k on it with those mods. Maybe I do do stand a chance when I go stage 1.

Nice, I had a 94z28 and it would have been easily beaten by a well driven STi.

Just beware of the more heavily modded ones (and well maintained). I met a guy at the track with a very stock looking LT1 z28. With gears, converter, bolt ons, and a cam, he was running 12.6s in the 1/4 mile.

I ran a white camaro that followed me home tonite (jeez, the weather gets warmer and you find them everywhere!). His window's tint was too dark so I just threw a small rev at him at the stop light and he threw one right back. His must've not gotten traction because I pull buslengths on him. Did a couple from a roll and I pulled about 2 car lengths. He pulled once on me because I was in the wrong gear (4th going 40ish. DUH) but he couldn't pull away.

I can say with confidence that the STi in stock form is AS quick if not quicker than a stock or lightly modified camaro. Or I'm a very good driver. I give credit to the STi. I LUV MY SUBY!! :D

I did the same in my STi.. I was also a stage 2 at the time and I pulled on an LS1 Z28 hard from a 60mph roll. I had 2-3 cars by 110mph. I did it 2 times in a row. I was actually pretty suprised to pull that hard on an LS1 from a roll. Stage 2 really gives an STi a lot more top end speed.
