I hope this is true, but am skeptical, since we haven't heard anything about this from Clayton, Clint or Joe.

ETA: just read the article.... Canada...wonder if this pertains to US, as well...

Okay.... I don't know if I updated that probably so just posting what I said. Below is an update from OP on the Reddit post.

"I got an update from the sales guy at subaru. He just got a reply from Subaru Canada that the changes for the 2017 tranny is "The shift detent profile has been changed to improve the feeling of smooth, distinct gears , as well as the solid feel after a gear has been selected."

So it sounds like then, all they did was get rid of "or reduce" the notchy-ness of the shifter. Sigh, oh well, was hoping to see something that may have had to do with rev-hang, mounts, maping, syncros etc. I can row just fine and to me the notchy shifter has always been a subi trait.

No doubt. Big difference between "updated transmission" and "updated shifter".
I reckon magazine writers don't know the difference, or they think their readers don't.

I think I found the part in the brochure they were talking about, but it really doesn't indicate any changes, other than verbage. And I haven't heard anything official yet. Believe or not, though I have them on the ground, the training materials for sales haven't been updated yet. Talk about shipping cars early this year !!

This quote is from Subaru's Canadian site, interesting that they'd mention it there, but not for the initial press release for US. So, I can't say for sure if it's changed for US too, or not.

For the 2017 model year, the WRX adds automatic up/down functionality to the front passenger’s window, a soft woven fabric on the roof trim and a revised manual transmission offering improved shift feel. The 2017 WRX Sport has been given the same changes as the entry model but has otherwise not been changed for this model year.

Here's the US press release equivalent paragraph.

For 2017, WRX and WRX STI models receive new tricot headliners. Previously only offered on premium trim and higher, the base WRX STI offers auto on/off headlights in auto mode position with windshield wiper operation. Power window auto up/down function on driver and front passenger windows with anti-pinch protection standard on all trim levels.
