Will the stage I tune help with surging with heavy throttle. When I shift with heavy throttle I get a surging feeling. It feels like fat/lean/fat/lean or timing going in and out. Has anyone else had this problem. I have stock tune, no mods, and use 93 fuel. Thanks for all the fun and informative reads.

I am going through the exact same thing with my 16 WRX (MT) and am on the fence about the accessport because of warranty. I have researched alot though and have not really seen any negative reviews about the accessport, like engines blowing or any problems that might arise. Like you said though, The powerband is soo bad and it feels like it wants to go but its being held back....

The accessport wont blow up your car you wont blow your car up until 375/400hp and then you will bend a rod or spin a bearing. The biggest problem is these motors sometimes just blow up and its subarus fault but if you have an accessport they will deny warranty and put the blame on you.

im currently tuned and putting 335 to the wheels and the car drives like a monster wouldnt change it for the world. Stock tune is reallllllly bad in many ways

If you plan on keeping the car then buy an accessport and tune the damn thing.

Something to keep in mind when youre thinking about tuning the car. Every motor is different they all have a " sweet spot " for power. When you get protuned the tuner will find the best spot for cam angles/boost/timing/etc. Some cars may make more power with less boost than others thats just how it works. The preloaded maps you get from cobb are not tuned for YOUR specific car they are a very conservative tune that will work fine with ALL of the wrx's. You should get a protune and have a reliable/reputable tuner dial your motor in.

What made me shy away from any tuners... The lack of dyno shops near me for a custom tune.
I highly recommend having a custom tune while your car is on the dyno. This would eliminate any problems you are having. Emailing datalogs is part the way there but it's a mere guess and check game that way.

Also, talk to your tuner. Get to know exactly what was neede to tune properly. See if there is a discount in the future for add-ons and re-tunes. Generally there are since you already have a better base to work off of.

If you have a good tuner they can tune that out. This is a problem that has been present for quite some time through the generations. My tuner explained it as just being lean spots in the fueling curve, likely done for emissions purposes. My protune on my old 11 WRX eliminated the problem. I'm unsure if Cobb's off the shelf maps solve this or not as I haven't used one before. I would venture to say that it would at least improve it.

Just beware that if you got a 2015 WRX with the recalled ECU or have updated your AP, that you can't run the MA Performance OTS... I loved it when I could run it (stock drop in, car bone stock)

Though the MA tune is a bit aggressive for daily driving, if you can't rip it it's not fun because it wants to be ripped, hard and fast like a cheap porno.
