New to this forum. I just got my STi today. I have a few concerns about this recall.

What or how does ping or knock sound like?

I love the car, didn't boost it much, I have been keeping it under 4000 rpm.

How did you guys break-in your Sti?

TIA

from what i'm hearing...

just keep it under 4000rpm's for the first 1000 miles. And do your normal driving, just try not to keep it same constantly. change speeds and such..... Many people are changing the oil after the first 1k miles.

anyway... congrats on the new vehicle! What color did you get, and how you liking it so far?

I love it very much. I got the blk one with the perls.

So does every Sti needs to be remapped?

Thanks

I am in Washington, I went to the dealer and they pulled up the records and there are no recalls.

Should I believe them? Sorry don't mean anything bad but I just love my car so much I don't want anything to happend to it.

hi guys.
New to the forum and I picked up a black STi also (maybe the same person?).

I'm curious as to this ping thing too. I don't hear pings but it does idle kind of rough like a Mustang. Is this detonation or is this normal?
:eek3:

I too have a hard time breaking this car in. This is the hardest thing since puberty.

I think the lumpy idle comes from the racier cams, my old car has crowers in it and it sounded like that.

Man I am at 130mi, can't wait til 1000mi

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Besides, the STi got 2004 car of the year award from Road & Track (beating out a Porsche GT3, BMW, RX8, 350Z, etc.) and numerous other best in class awards from just about every magazine I've read.

For $32K it is a THE bargain of the century. If you're looking for a soft comfy ride, look elsewhere -- this is NO luxury performance sedan.

PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THIS THREAD.

It is a real problem with early 2004 STis. My 03/03 build was so early that Subaru didn't have the fix last year. I am just going into the dealer Monday to get the refresh. The pinging problem is temperature dependent. I may not be able to demonstrate it as it will be cool Monday. Delete this link and I will be screwed!

No one seems to know for sure I guess...?

I've had my STi for a whopping 2 weeks now but I've not heard any knocking at all yet. I was running 93 and getting great performance but when I went to 91 I could definately tell the car pulled timing because it got a lot slower but didn't detect any knocking so they must have fixed it.
