Squealing Noise

When ever I start up my 09 WRX in the morning following a cold night, it makes a loud squealing, squeaking noise. However to solve this problem by revving the engine up to roughly 2500 or 3000 rpm and the noise goes away. Should I be concerned?

Also, another squealing noise comes when I steer sharply to park or parallel park. I know it is a power steering issue which makes it either the belt or pump. Which one is it generally? Do I have to replace the pump?

Usually, unless it's not. In any case replace the belt with an authentic Subaru belt that is set at the correct tension. It's a $20 gamble and even if the problem is something else, fixing that something else would necessitate removing the belt, at which point you may as well replace it. Notice I said authentic Subaru belt set at the correct tension at least thrice counting this one. No coincidence.

Ok I'm planning on changing the belt tomorrow. The sound at start up has gotten progressively worse and worse! I'll attach a video. It only does this at start up and the duration of the sound has been increasing from nearly 30 seconds to probably 2 minutes over the last week.

Have you also checked your power steering fluid level? Just by chance if there's air getting trapped inside it'll squeel.

Only saying as I've had a similar situation...kinda stopped squealing but I'm sure my pump is in its way out. Did it once on start up and then when turning closer to full lock the whining as turning starts to squeal faintly

I just replaced my belt. The old one looked horrible. The problem and all whistling squealing has gone away. I started the car and some warning lights turned on. It most likely is a misfire. The "check engine" light, the "traction control off" light, and the "cruise control" is flashing. Any suggestions?

By chance the first time you did completely start the car and the lights came on right? You would be surprised to know how many people came in complaining of a check engine light just to know their car wasn't running

I noticed the warning lights on a drive. Then like three hours later when I was about to leave to get the codes read and the warning light turned off. I did tighten the bolts slightly. And made sure everything was connected properly.

You should still be able to get the codes read depending on the scanner being used
Some of them let you see history codes. If you can get those read
But if not for now monitor it. Of there's no present lights there's no problems the ecu is seeing. Ever so often like aircraft the ecu will send a challenge signal to sensors and everything to see how they're working. If the challenge digital can't be replied to correctly then the ecu throws a fault code. Since there's no code there's no issue at the moment
