I have seen a few trails for the SPT intake that showed that it dosent lean out the mix, but also there were little gain. Dont know if the dealer will void anything with the instal.

 

The SPT intake is designed better than most aftermarket intakes. It won't lean out the motor.

Also, the heat shield is not for the turbo. It goes around the intake to keep hot air out. It is designed to make the car draw air in through the holes in the inner fender and from behind the headlight. It is supposed to give the benefits of a CAI without the problems.

I was going to build something like it for my Cobb intake, but if the Cobb fits in it, I'll just buy one of SPT's.

 

1) Not EVERY intake causes problems with the wrx. There are a few (and I mean only a few) that work well with the wrx. No real power gains, but will give some more sounds and wont "F" things up. SPT is one of these it seems.

2) If you install it yourself, they "can" give you issues with future warranty work. It really all depends on the dealership.

3) If they install it themselves (the dealership you get warranty work done at) then keep documentation of the install and they cannot do anything if it causes problems with your car. They must fix it under warranty.

 

i read from nasioc that this guy said SPT intake screwed up his WRX, im not so sure..

 

I'm sure you will find a thread saying that any part screwed up someones WRX.

I've seen peoples DIY installs, and they are normally poor.

I have the SPT intake and heat sheild installed on my wrx limited...

I had an INJEN CAI and removed it - I looked at all the gains and specs of the car running rich with results on BOTH pieces and the SPT and heatsheild combo prove to be better and more reliable.

I'm running a VF39 with my SPT as well as a GODSPEED TMIC and Nitrox TMIC Sprayer kit making almost 320whp and 345wtq

I have yet to experience ANY issues as a result of the SPT

Yeah we can all install an intake, but it doesnt cost much to have them do it and have the insurance that if something were to go wrong, Subaru is liable, and not you.by installing it yourself and saving a little money, if something goes wrong, it could actually be causing you Thousands (but lets hope not!!! lol)

he loves it. he lives up in KY, his 3rd STI, but the first modified one. He takes it out to a old airstrip and runs it since it isn't used any more when he gets the urge to go really fast.

he is in his 60's. owns a bunch of hotels and a few coal mines/companies in KY. lets just say money isnt one of his worries.

he isnt officially married, but has a girlfriend that lives with him - they have been together for a long time.

 

I just installed the SPT intake last night and it sounds great, performance in negligible. Today I was driving around and the car started to feel kinda weird, very unsmooth. So I decided to pop the hood and check it out, turns out the filter just fell off and was just sitting there inside my engine bay

I kinda freaked out. I noticed it when I installed it that the connection piece of the filter is very slick with a kind of oil (I imagine for the cotton filter). I had the thing as tight as I could on there and it just slipped right off.

So I got a towel and wiped it as dry as I could and put it back on. And tightened the heck out of it, so we will see how it goes from here.

I am just glad I didn't suck a rock through my turbo, all though then I would have to get a bigger turbo, oh well :sadwave:

 

Does anybody think that the re-flash from subaru for the SPT intake will help with any other similar designed intake? I would imagine yes, but not as much as the SPT.

P.S. 05silverWRX the same thing happend to me when I used to have an intake, the clamp stripped out and the filter fell off The car ran like POO and it was bucking and poping and stalling. Funny how that works. I have driven car that were running open throttle body and there was no problem. Goes to show how senistive the WRX is with it's intake.

I got home last night and checked it and it was still on so I guess wiping it down did the trick. I tightened it a little more just for safe measure. Now that it is on good, the car feels really smooth and has good power, of course I don't think I can tell if there is any additional power. The swoosh sound from the turbo is now noticable. The car also feels easier to driver at 1900 to 2000 rpms. It doesn't seem to struggle as much.

Anyway, I would recommend the piece but make sure and wipe it down first before installing :thumbup:
