Myself and the gf just got back from the local dealership....I got an OTD price of 24,582 for a 2006 wrblue wrx with spoiler and SS option....this is not a TR and NOT a limited....it is the middle of the road WRX. Can anyone offer any insight? I didnt sign any paper and walked out on a note of "Can you go 23,800" they said not that much so I said I have to think about it and will get back with them monday. I realize I low balled them with 23 but I wanted to test them. They basicaly said supply and demand is making the market not going down that low....They might go a few hundred less....

Sounds like an ok deal or not??

EDIT...this car is not on the lot and they'd have to find it.

Seems like a fair price with those options, you might be able to get them down to 24K. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies....I didnt tell them what I wanted to pay....I had a fair market value in my head before walking in...and there first offer was really close. I'm not trying to get the BEST deal out there....treat me fair and i'll do the same in return.....I just need second thoughts on if this is "fair" or not........thanks

O word I misread your first post, sorry ive been installing parts on my car for the last 6-7 hours, im beat.
Yeh dont tell anyone what you wanna pay, say "give me your bottom line price." An then if they says 20 whatever say okay thankyou, then if they do ask your price, say a dollar. We'd all want a brand new wrx for a dollar."
I did this for about 30 mins to the salesman until I got the absolute price I wanted on my 04.
Honestly the 06 wrx is a hot commodity (sp?) but I havent seen one on the road yet. An my dealer here got in quite a few.

$24,500 is not bad. That is what my buddy paid for his black 06' with the same options and that was invoice price.
I would say maybe shoot for $24k but even still, I dont think $24.5k is "bad". Though, you have waited like 70billion years for a wrx, so why not just hold out another 6 months or so until demand drops and the "new-ness" factor wears off. They should be a bit cheaper.

My 06 wrx wagon was 24,592 OTD. So your price is good.

I paid $23,800 for my 06. Its the standard model, not a TR but has no added options. Its also a wagon.

They started at $26,900. I told them $22,000. It was a horrible, nasty rainy day and I was the 3rd person to walk in by 12PM on a Saturday. I highly recomend shopping for cars on days with awful weather. Sales managers would rather explain why they sold a car for a scratch over invoice than explain why they sold no cars at all for a whole day :)

That sounds good to me, based off of my own experiences. Dealerships are barely getting in the regular WRX sedans. There has only been ONE within 300 miles of where I live that I have seen over the past 2 months, and a couple of dealers I talked to didn't even know what I was talking about when I went into their dealerships looking for one. One dealer found one way out of state, but could/would only get it for 25k otd. I have so far ordered one at 23,900 before t&t, but they will apply any incentives at the time it comes in (it was $500 off at the time i ordered) .. I suspect I will get that still if not more off, judging by the prices they are selling the other trim levels at.

it all depends on availability and where you live though.

That is the exact car that I will be recieving at the end of this month other than color. I went to carsdirect.com to see the invoice with the shifter and spoiler($24,356). I did not really want the spoiler ($300 option), but that was all they could locate that would be here in a reasonable time. I am going to start at $22,500 and see where i can go from there and see if they will throw in any perks (boost guage). One good thing is I have known the family that owns the dealership since I was in grade school. The only bad thing is the next closest Subaru dealership is 2hrs away in another state so no saying "well ill just go to another dealer"

So far I have got the dealership down to 24500 otd on a 06 wrx with no options. I live in southern CT which is good because in a 50 mile radius there are about 20 subaru dealerships. I will go to every dealership asking them to match or beat the price. So far it has been working. I started at like 24500 without tax. I am making progress but I want more. :)

Well just to keep folks updated. I called the dealer today and said I couldnt make (got stuck in traffic....and i did) so I'll go in tomorrow morning. I'm going to see if they can locate my car and order it. I decided against the Short throw for now ( I can always add it later, plus I havent even driven a regular wrx yet) and that dropped the price a few more hundred. So if I can get a base model wrx (not tr or ltd) in blue with a spoiler for around or just under 24,000 OTD then I'm good to go.....other wise it's a waiting game. The other option is the dealer has a blue LTD on the lot.....I dont really want the LTD but if they want to give the whole package away for 800 bucks I might consider....we will see tomorrow.

Hey 302,
Depending where you are in MD, if you are close to VA you should check out Stohlman Subaru in Vienna, VA. I just checked their website and their inventory finder says they have 2006 WRXs. I am not sure which trim level you wanted but they had a few.

As for negotiating tactics just tell them you will pay invoice. That is what I do and if they really want to sell a car you will get the price you want. If not then they must be selling so many cars that they can go explain to sales manager why they blew the deal. I am fortunate in my area to have many car dealers so it is to walk away from one dealer and try another. I paid under invoice for my 06 WRX wagon and I split the stupid VA processing fee with them.

What kind of negotiating tactics did you use in general?
Well of course I had a "fair" price in my head already before I even walked in. I'm not a stickler for 200 bucks and I realize the salesman needs to make a living. The way I see it is if I dont save 200 bucks, but saves my time from emailing, calling, and driving to 10 different dealers....then who really cares. Besides 200 bucks over a 4 year loan is very very miniamal. So I just got a fair price in my head, sat down with them...they said what options...we did all that. They then put down 24,500 as there price....i low balled them to 23,800 they said no way....i said i'll think about it.

After reading many posts on the internet I think 24,500 and under for a regular wrx is fine. It isnt the "best" deal but if you want to walk in and drive away...that's a fair price.

I also knew someone (the senior service writer) so I think his referall is what got me a semi decent starting point.

I hope everything works out for you. I think you have the record for longest wait for a WRX. Kudos to you mang.

Thanks I do hope it is worth the wait through. I went today and got the final price 24,2xx for plain jane wrx (not tr or LTD) with a spoiler. There is probaly more bargaining that could have been done on that price, but i'm happy with what I got. The car should be in on thursday as they had to dealer exchange it. Pics and review shall follow hopefully.

Congrats. This is the WRX Sedan with the 6 disc changer and spoiler standard, correct? I just wonder because I've been doing plenty of research while waiting to sell my Celica and am going to go for the best price possible. 24,200 out the door is very good, imo.

Whats the sales tax over in maryland? After talking to the dealer more for my quote they fd up and gave me the TR price. Go figure. The best I got them down to was 23700 for the standard wrx plus 6% tax. would take it to around 25000 out the door.

MD is 5%......IMHO a regular wrx (climate control, six cd changer, cup holders all around etc) should not be any more then 24,500. I'm sure if someone played enough with the salesperson one could easily get to 23,8 or 23,900ish. I am happy with my 24,200 but next car we will haggle a bit more....probaly when the gf gets out of nursing school and we look at a LGT for her......
