I rolled over 1000 this morning and am getting the oil changed tonight. I haven't floored mine yet so we'll see. Never noticed any smells earlier but if I recall with my last car it took at least a few thousand miles before the burning smells completely disappeared.

 

Yes. I actually just dropped of my 2016 wrx limited for the first oil change and also told them about the same smell you're getting. I will let you know what they say

They literally just called me and told me my car is done. And that the smell is normal. I'm under warranty so if something happens. It's what ever.

Perfectly normal. You'll notice a lot of odd things with our cars :joy: It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru. I think the smell goes away completely at 1200 miles or so. At least mine did!

 

My 15 was still stinky at 4K but my 16 finally stopped all that around 300 miles ago. Now at 1700

 

Thanks for the responses guys, probably just me being paranoid. I took the wife for a ride along, hitting the curved freeway on ramp at 60mph made the wife giggle like a school girl.

Probably dust or something from the newness hearing up from the sudden spike in temperature from the exhaust as you were running the poop out of it.

Mine has about 3.3k miles and it still has that terrible smell under hard acceleration, regardless of the scenario. If it's normally I'd like to know specifically what's causing the smell because I don't think there's an exhaust reroute to the cabin so I shouldn't be smelling something like that.

 

Mine has around 14k and it smells when I hit around 6k rpm in first usually. I try not to, but when it does hit that, I get the same smell.

 

Mine now has 3000 miles. Still has the smell. Very strong smell of exhaust in the cab almost every time I go on long strides in 4th to 6th. Ie.. getting on the freeway. Or when I stay in 6th or 5th and pass someone I notice it. Very annoying because then I hear my wife complain about the smell. I don't mind it as much. But I wish it didn't do it.

If the headers are on the bottom of the engine they are going to collect dirt, dust, road oil, crap etc. Under wot they are going to get hot. Under repeated long hard pulled they are going to get super duper hot and burn that off. It reeks. Burning dirt is awful.

And it's not under wot. I can be cruising in 5th. Got to pass someone by only applying 30 percent pedal. And it still reeks. Not dirt. Not normal. Subaru needs to figure it out.

If it is an exhaust/raw fuel smell look at the exhaust or emissions system. If it is a burning smell it's typically junk on the headers. My Jeep would have this issue after going out in deep mud. It wasn't exhaust or fuel it was crap on the exhaust.

I used to own a wrangler as well. I know the exact smell you're speaking of. This smell is different though. Will take your breath away if you inhale after getting on the freeway or passing someone. Smells like your sticking your nose up to the exhaust tip. Only stronger... lol

I used to get the smell to when the windows were cracked only. There are some vents in the trunk on both sides behind the trim. There are these rubber flaps thag can get stuck open. Pull them back down and no more smell. There was a thread on nasioc with pics.

 

Wouldn't happen to know which thread do you. Looked. Couldn't find. Pics would be great. It's a very bad exhaust smell. I'm now at 3700 miles. Don't get me wrong I love the smell ofnpower. But when I push the pedal hard. Not when I'm cruising in 6th and decide to pass someone. Lmao.
