Hi, all. Hope everyone is doing well. I have reserved a 2022 WRX GT from my local dealership that is set to be here on the 23rd of May.

I've wanted a WRX ever since the 2001 bug eye, was just never in a spot where it was economical. Now, it is. Wife approval and all.

I wanted the manual, but sitting in Austin traffic 5 days a week, I just don't think it would be enjoyable. Thus the GT.

I am just really worried about the transmission, any calming words you could share? It does have the paddle shifters, I just worry I waited this long and I'm going automatic.

Also, any dealer upgrades worth it? This is basically the car I ordered. Mine has the all weather floor mats added. Was going to see if I could sweet talk the exhaust upgrade since it looks like I'm paying over msrp.

BTW. I did do a search before posting. :)

I own a 2016 that is CVT also, yours has an improved performance/tcu, which I would like to get in my car anyday. That’s a plus right there.

Everybody thinks Im crazy because I drive and mod an automatic car, but really I would never go back.

Simply put it that way, you are limited in WHP that you can safely achieve, but man, those car were not meant to be race cars anyways…

Also don’t drive it like you stole it, be gentle, follow procedure, there is a “good way” to floor a car. Please never launch it.

Try to not reach full throttle before the torque converter is locked, that means around 30km/h (maybe im wrong about numbers but you get the idea).

To my eyes, the 6mt from the wrx is not a great/solid tranny anyways, nothing comes close to the 6mt STI, so when you give me the choice between a weak 6mt or my CVT, its really easy to go with the 8 speed. The SI/drive controls the cvt computer, its crazy that you can achieve a Slowpoke Yaris feeling on the intelligent mode or F1 shifting from the touch of a button.

You’ll love it!

Thanks for that, and everything else you shared. Didn't want to quote the whole post. I am not looking to build a race car, so I don't think I'll have any issues with not achieving top performance. Not going to be racing people for pinks either.

Would love to hit the back roads of the Texas Hill Country with the wife on the weekend and still have a car good for travel back and forth to work with plenty of power when needed.

I do get to back out if I drive it and hate it. Though I can't really see that happening.

2 years ago I bought a 2019 mustang gt I wanted the 6 speed but I test drove the 10 speed automatic and I love it. The paddle shifters work great. This year I bought a 6 speed wrx and I love that also. It has the awd which I need for the winter. I love both cars. The wrx cause it's a driver's car the mustang cause its a beast. Both are fun in their own way. G wanted a 6 speed but I test drove the 10 speed automatic and I am really happy with it. I did get the 6 speed on my wrx. I now have the best of both worlds. The 10 speed is beast and the 6 speed is

I had a 2017 and 2020 CVT WRX. The 2017 I had 38,000mi on it when I traded it in no issues what so ever also no mods except I had the STI exhaust from the factory. The 2020 I had only for a year or so and had less than 5,000mi on it but had to trade in due to having a newborn and just barely any room for a large car seat and not having room in the front seat for a passenger. I didn’t mind the CVT but it felt kinda like a rubber band at times when accelerating and when the turbo would spool. Now with the 2022 I know they did upgrades to the new CVT and I’ve heard it’s great. Better “shifting” experience/feel, having the active dampers on the GT will be nice too! Also they added a transmission cooler which was a necessary upgrade on the older models if you wanted to mod them. There’s a WRX CVT group on FB and the mod of the group I believe runs a Stage 2+ I believe and it has stayed reliable if you’re planning on any performance mods. Hope this helps a little bit and sorry for such a long post

So for me honestly it was okay but just not loud enough. Definitely better than the stock WRX exhaust though. So if you don’t want anything too loud it isn’t a bad option but personally I’d go aftermarket once the manufacturers start releasing them for the 2022. I think with the new motor it does produce a slightly lower sound now though.
On my 2020 I got a Invidia R400 exhaust and it was perfect for me and cheaper than the $1200 they charge for the STI exhaust from factory.
