JDM STi Headlights - CC-B Harness vs. Scoobymods Wiring

I used scoobie mods to do my STI HIDs. Its not really that different.

All you need to do is figure out which one is the hig beam ground and wich one is the low beam ground.

The center wire( I would assume the blue/red) is the shared positive. The other 2 will be the switched negatives.

One way to test which wire is which is to turn on the headlight from inside the car. Then take your H1 bulb and touch the connectors to it and see which set lights it up. The H1 should be polarity insensitive so it wont matter what prong you touch to the ground or positive.

Ill take a look at my car and see wich ones I have going where alittle later.

Well I looked but it was too dark to see the colors and I cant find my flash light

There is a very large diagram on NASIOC that showed exactly what wire did what on the car along with thier colors. For some reason I cant find it though.

I actually did start a thread on that spoiler here :)

WIth the diagram and your pics above this is how I would wire it:

Left headlight:
1. High beam outside RL(2)
2. High beam inside R(1)
3. Low beam black R(1)
4. Low beam green YR(3)

Right headlight:
5. High beam outside LW(2)
6. High beam inside R(1)
7. Low beam black R(1)
8. Low beam green YR(3)

The code I added is the color of the wire the wires number in the diagram. If you want a larger pic posted let me know.

That is the wiring diagram from the Subaru Impreza manual.

You can see the the red wire labeled #1 is the shared ground for both lights. The wire labeled #2 is the high beam posistive and the wire labeled #3 is the low beam positive. This is for both headlights although the wire color will be different per side.

Now this is what I used to wire up the STI HIDs which are polarity sensitive, meaning I had to have the positive connected to the positive and the ground connected to the ground. The halogen bulbs are not polarity sensitive meaning the bulb doesn't really have a positive and a negative. You can plug them in however you want as long as you use the correct 2 wires.

Im just trying to help out :), I dont really want the money. I had a bit of a problem finding info on wiring mine up until I found the PDF manual for the WRX. Then it all became clear.

OK, Im smokin crack :)

You are correct about the wiring. I dont know what I was thinking saying the red was the common ground.

Let us know how it goes.

man, i heard from a guy that:
"One thing that's different about the WRX is that instead of the 9007 connector haveing two +12v wires and a common ground, it has one +12v wire and two switched grounds.

I'm trying to hook up the JDM HIDs myself, and i don't wanna fry anything. so if i take the CC-B harness, and hook it to the factory harness, i'll have 3 wires hanging there. is it gonna be 2 +s and one ground, or 1+ and two switched grounds?
You will have 1 positive and 2 grounds.

also, with the HIDs, the high beams have 2 wires. one pos, one neg? or both pos?

You will have 1 pos and 1 neg. The highbeams use the same positive wire that they low beams do.

with the ballast here, i have one ground, and one power on it. should the ground be sent to the chassis of the car, and the power to whichever is the low beam + on your schematic there?
Just hook the neg wire from the ballast to the low beam neg and the ballast pos to the shared pos. It will be the middle wire on the 9007 connector.

Pityr, if you could PM me your most basic "for dummies" explanations of the wires, i'd really appreciate it. thanks
You just have to remember that there is 1 high beam ground, 1 low beam ground and 1 shared 12v positive. From the wiring schematic and previous posts wich one is wich will be fairly evident.

Another easy way to check which one is which is to take the high beam out of the housing along with the harness. Unplug one of your headlights and plug in the CC-B harness. Now, make sure that none of the wires are touching each other or anything on the car. Turn the lowbeam light on from inside the car. Touch one wire from the high beam harness to the center wire on the CC-B harness. This is the shared power. Then touch the other wire to one of the other wires. Which-ever one lights the light up will be the low beam. This leaves the other to be the high beam.

You dont need to worry about what wire is pos or neg on the high beam bulb, it is polarity insensitve and it doesn't matter. Wiring up the ballast you must plug the pos to the pos and the neg to the neg. The ballast is polarity sensitive and if you swap them you can damage the ballast.

If you want you can hit me up on AIM, my ID there is pityr0.

is this statement backwards? if i was fooling with the high beam, then wouldn't the wire to light up the high beam be the HIGH beam neg, and vice versa?
Your just using the high beam bulb as a test light. You could use any 12V bulb for this but using the hig beam bulb is convenient since you already have it handy.

It will tell you which one is the low beam because you have turned on the low beam circuit. The other ground wire, the one that doesn't lights the bulb up, will be for the high beams.

As for the ballasts, You need to connect the ground to the low beam ground.

Remeber, on our headlights the shared power is always on. The ground wires are the ones that are disconnected until you turn on the lights. When you turn on the low beams the low beam ground is connected and the power is allowed to flow through the circuit, lighting the bulb. The same goes for the high beams.
