SUBARU TOP MOUNT INTERCOOLER KIT SILVER WRX 2015-2021. I dont see this on any cobb stages. Would it require a custom tune??

Someone could probably prove me wrong here but as far as my knowledge goes; changing from a stock TMIC to a aftermarket bolt-on TMIC doesnt require a tune. Thats the short answer.

I got pro-tuned on stock tmic. Tuner put a note about high Intake Air Temperature at WOT. So first thing I new is that I wanted to improve soon.
I asked before I leave if the grimmspeed tmic was o.k to install with my freshly made pro-tune. Basically he said there is no harm to it but to actually “gain it’s full potential” a retune was needed. That totally fine with me because I will go on the dyno again later with the jpipe…

So really, no.... You dont need a tune for a new intercooler, however, without a tune it's nothing more than a pretty piece of metal. You will need a tune to really see any potential gains with an aftermarket/larger intercooler.

Maximus really hit the nail on the head here. What mods are done to the car now? You are on here talking about increasing horsepower, well there is a plethora of aftermarket parts you can do for a bump in power before a turbo swap should even be considered.

K&N filter element only? Or complete intake system?

Exhaust sounds like a usual “cat-back” type. No j-pipe included.
Usually catbacks are considered non-performance a long as certain parameters are respected at somepoint. Turbo j pipe needs a tune, not a catback.

Yeah man, there is a lot to consider before jumping into a bigger turbo. The fa20 reacts great to breather mods. So intake, egr delete, tgv delete. Also a J pipe will net some good gains. A 3 port electronic boost control solenoid. There are literally a bunch of stuff you can do to increase power output.

But remember, the cobb accessport maps will cover nothing I just mentioned. You will need a pro tune directly after installation. The best method is to compile a list of parts and start buying. Hoard parts until you have everything you want to do, then install all at once with a pro tune directly following. That way you arent paying for a tune after every single mod.

Well that all depends. If you are planning on running the cobb stage 2 map until you get more mods, you will need to get the cobb J pipe to comply with cobbs map notes. If you go aftermarket, a custom tune will be required.

If you’re going to get a jpipe you might want to consider buying one now. Cobb pulled them from their store so there is no more “stage 2” option from them anymore. Either there will be a release of something carb compliant in the future from Cobb, or they are done with it completely. EPA/ carb is cracking down so non carb legal parts may become harder and harder to find, just food for thought. Welcome to the subaru community
