Any suggestions? I heard that the BFGoodridge ones are good... any more besides the stock ones? BTW, anyone know how many miles the stock ones last before I need to replace them?

same questions

I have interest in this subject was well. I have been contemplating swapping out the stock tires with something like either:

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
Potenza S-03 Pole Position
Toyo Proxies
Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2

My stock tires have about 10K miles on them and the treadwear still looks pretty good. The mag's say this Exalto is modeled in the spirit of the wrc and is suppose to use different composites or something than the PS2 but who knows. I run a set of Dunlop M3 winter sport tires in the winter. They were great last year in the Connecticut snow but you definitely lose some handling. I think all the tires above are summer only rated (could be wrong), Michellin makes just the Pilot sport (not ps2) that is all season any feedback from anyone using that tire? Now that i'm back in DC the snow won't be as big an issue. I just wish I could get the best of both worlds, an all season with mean grip ;)

I had Pirelli P Zero Assemetricos on my 911. Pricey, but great grip and very firm sidewalls. Noisy as hell though. Figure about 12-15K miles. Michelin Pilot Sports,IMHO are overated and made in FRANCE :thumbdown . Lot a choices out there. I will not replace my OE Bridgestones when they go away.

What do you mean you will "not" replace them?

I will not buy the same tire-yeah, I guess that didn't make sense. I'm going with the Pirelli's.

I have the all season Toyo Proxes 4's in 225/40/18 and so far they some to be a good deal because they were pretty cheap and grip well in the pouring rain. I've only driven on them 2 days, so I'll have to give you more feedback once I get my car back tomorrow. You will take a hit coming from the stock tires no matter what all season/winter tires you decide on but I've heard they are some of the best handling all season tires, just a step below the grippy Toyo T1s.

If you want super grippy dry/wet tires then from what I've heard the best choices are:
BFGoodridge GForces, the Michelin Pilot Sports PS2s, Bridgestone Potenza S03s, or the extreme Toyo RAs.

I still like the OEM tires. I think subaru chose well when supplying these on our cars. They have good wear characteristics, no balance issues, grip surprisingly well when inflated properly, and are decent in the rain. Snow...well, they suck, but that's what winter tires are for. I'll be replacing my stockers with another set of stockers...and keep R compounds on the ready for track days!!

How many miles before replacing?

Anyone Know How Long The Oem Tires Last Before They Are Need To Be Replaced?

Well, that depends....

That depends entirely on you; your driving habits, your maintenance (check pressures regularly) and amount of use.

I have ~18k on the OEM tires on my 04 STi and they still look and work great. Limited track use. Everyday driver.

I have gone through a set of S03's in 15k miles, but drove the WRX a little harder. For my money, the 070's are hard to beat if you live in sunshine.

Peace,

Curtis

I forgot to mention that I am looking for pure summer performance (I live in LA and it barely rains here anyways). I must say I am really happy with the OEM tires and I feel like they have great grip and cornering... the only bad thing is the low threadwear rating.

Ditto,
With my OEMs, I have three track sessions on them, plus 24K miles, and they still look very good. I can probably subract 6-8K as I do swap them out in the winter. Overall though, I can't believe the good treadwear I've gotten out of them considering the abuse they've taken. Again, I think they are one of the best tires for the dollar, with above average grip, long life, and excellent wear characteristics.

Ive heard that Falcan Azenis' are amazing when its dry buy lose a ton of traction when it rains. If you leave your car in the garage when it rains then I believe these are the best buy!
They are better then the stock tires are in the wet, and better in the cool, and better in the dry till you overheat the azenis. The only place the stock tires are better is if its hot/dry/and your on a roadcourse.

As for what mileage to replace the tires at, thenumber doesnt matter, when the tires are done they are done. Mine went 8k before losing all grip(still tread they were just heat cylced to death) but others have gone close to 30k. It depends on alot of stuff.

as good as the kumho mx are I find it hard to believe that they grip better than re070 in the dry. Anyone driven on both tires?
I have, and the OEM definitely stand up to heat cycling better. The Kumho's seem to get a little greasy after a few sessions. Can't beat the Kumho's price though. You can tear up a few of those without to much of a dent to the wallet. Also, the Kumho's get crazy loud once they start to wear, but then, that wasn't the question was it. I'd still take the OEM tires.
