Has anyone with the AWE Touring exhaust getting a whistle on boost? My car is stock other than the exhaust. A guy on Reddit posted with the same exact sound but other than that I haven't seen any videos on the internet with this exhaust making the whistle. I did the install in my home garage but struggled with getting the piping and the torquing done on the cold garage floor. I got it installed but I then booked an appointment with a local speed shop to take care of any leaks that were present (unsurprisingly they were numerous). I drove away thinking it was fixed but getting on boost I still heard the whistle.

I took it back a few days alter and they said it was just turbo whistle which I don't necessarily believe. I put in a ticket with AWE and they said it was just turbo whistle. If I had seen other videos that sounded like that i might believe them.

Got a tune and installed this exhaust at the exact same time. I get a high pitched whistle at peak boost and was always curious why it began happening. Was also assured it was turbo spool buy always freaked me out. Getting 19psi consistently with solid back pressure. Would love to know why...

Yeah, if that were true (other people said it's the wastegate) you would hear it on every single aftermarket exhaust system on the VB wrx. There is nothing unique or special about AWE's design other than the 180 degree mufflers. it's just a straight midpipe with a resonator and two mufflers. You'd also hear the dynamics of the turbo as it spools and drops, not one solid high pitched note like a whistle.

Pretty sure while the AWE touring does sounds AWESOME, it's a shittily built product that prob has leaks in the welds and they don't stand behind it or have customer service AT ALL. My shop assured me it's all fit on properly, no leaks...but i still hear the noise.

Here are two other examples of AWE Touring with zero whistling:

I had the touring version on mine. I don't know if this will help.

I couldn't get the exhaust tips on without them touching the bumper for some reason. I had to leave a gap when I attached them to the mufflers. I don't know if that is your problem.

I never felt really confident, if that's the term with the exhaust system. It never sounded like what I was expecting. I am a former BMW owner and I knew people that had AWE exhausts on their cars. They did sound good on their cars. This just wasn't the same experience. I went back and put on the Sti mufflers. I bought them from Subaru of the Rockies out of Colorado. They came with everything, including new bolts for attaching the mufflers to the pipe. It was a pain to take apart and I should have done this in the first place. It would have been cheaper, and I would have been happier right off the bat. The Sti mufflers sound so nice, even my wife likes the sound over the AWE. She said the Sti sounds deeper and the AWE she described as "tinny" sounding.

I thought they had a 30 day return policy also. I think I would do that if you can. It's not worth the anxiety. We put too much time and money in these cars. We want to enjoy them, not agonize over them. Unless you are agonizing over the next mod!!

Life got a little busy - have an appointment on the 10th of next month at a different shop to hopefully get a definitive - the other shop ripped you and didn't fix the leaks or it's shit quality you should try to get a replacement.

Received a good update this morning on a ticket I have open.

I wanted to let you know that our engineering team was able to get a Subaru back into our shop for testing of a system that was reported to whistle. They found the resonator on the E97 to be the root cause. We decided to swap out the resonator with one that we use on other platforms and there was no whistle once installed and driven on.

We placed an order for the updated E97 to be fabricated and sent out to you. Order details will be sent to you shortly, Once you get the part swapped out you should be good.
They're sending out a replacement resonator section. Can't wait for it to arrive.
