Hello everybody, im brand new to this forum. I own an 07 impreza hatch back. Nothing had been modified to its engine yet. But I am looking in to add such things as a turbo and other mods to it. I was wondering what things I need to add to my car before I just add my turbo. Like stuff I should have so the turbo wont hurt my engine.
Thanks everybody if you have any other questions on what I mean just post them.

fyi- hatchbacks were not available in 07 so i'm assuming youre referring to a wagon.

is there any reason why you didn't buy the turbo wrx to begin with? i dont have much knowledge on doing a turbo on an n/a but it seems like it would cost more money in the long run to build a strong- reliable turbo impreza.

welcome to the club too

Try posting on: NASIOC

they have a N/A section and a N/A Impreza w/forced induction (turbo) section as they may be of more help.

also see this thread: 2.5i turbo - NASIOC

Its not that it cannot be done, its just going to be a lot of work. From my understanding the 2.5L N/A engine just cannot handle the high compression needed to run boost. If you want WRX power you should have started with WRX.

^^^^ +1

The problem isn't really just bolting on on a turbo, intercooler, injectors, etc..... it's the fact that your engine INTERNALLY isn't capable of sustaining the kind of boost that a purpose-built turbocharged WRX or STI can.

Yes, you can turbocharge an RS..... but your engine is really only capable of handling maybe 5-7 lbs. of boost (Maybe??)

Whereas it is not uncommon for WRXs and STIs to sustain over 20 psi.

You would have to do an entire internal engine rebuild to do that.

I would say a cheaper option would be to just purchase a used WRX motor, and then sort through a swap.... but your car is practically brand new, that wouldn't make much sense either.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

You could do a catback exhaust (CBE). But, to be honest its probably not worth it. N/A cars don't respond to mods well. You could do CBE, intake, headers and gain 15-20whp if your lucky. IMHO its not worth the $$$ for a little power gain.

My advice save your money and in a few years trade her in and get a WRX or better yet a STi.

Headers, intake, plugs, Exhaust, Redline oil,

The best improvement?? Weight reduction. A lighter set of wheels makes a world of difference.

What brand of Headers, intake, plugs, etc should I get? What would be best for my car? Like I know nothing about engine's and parts. Im a complete newb when it comes to engines. So what ever brands and parts you suggest I will get and have somebody add them to my car...

Also, you can get WRX suspension parts and upgrade your handling.

A better handling car will be faster on the street (twisties) and make up for lack of horsepower.

Or you could trade it in for a WRX...

Okay, my thoughts on this are as follows:

  • Get a set of headers or custom ones fab'd for you
  • Get a CBE with either a high flow cat or none at all
  • Get a TRUE CAI (read not SRI) and stay away from puddles
  • Lighter wheels
  • Sways, springs, and struts
  • Nitrous for any lack of power you would like to increase

The reasons being this:

  • The stock internals can't handle boost, like others have said
  • A motor swap will still leave you with more modding; you now don't have the right differentials to keep the power to the wheels that a WRX will have, as the 2.5i doesn't have LSD
  • It will cost you more to mod it than it's really worth

Long story short, you should just pay on the car and enjoy it as is and then trade up to a WRX or STi...

ok, lets just work with some numbers here.

lets say you bought your 07 impreza BRAND NEW.

i'm guessing they're anywhere between 17-19k.

this kit you are looking at is $3650.

even if you paid... lets say 16k for your car (we'll estimate a little lower than what they go for), thats 19650 for an impreza. not even including labor and installation fees.

i'm not trying to come off in a rude way, but it really does not make sense financially to spend that type of money on the car, especially when you can get a used 06/07 wrx for the same exact price, if not cheaper.

Okay, trading your i for a WRX is not an option.

You need to ask your self "what are my goals for this car?"
Here are some options, but please let us know if it's not on this list.
  • AutoX?
  • Drag?
  • Canon?
  • I wanna show up that guy in the Lancer OZ-Rally
  • I wanna beat that guy with the stage 2 WRX
  • Daily driver that's faster than stock?

Then we'll see what we can do to help.

Edit : Is installing a WRX engine an option?
Also, what is your budget like?
Can the car be under the knife (not drivable) for a week or more at a time?

And here is my reply to jeremy's post:
Its going to be just a Dialy driver that i want to be faster than stock and I want to beat those guys in the Lancer, and I also want to make it my OWN Impreza, i.e. sometihng that people will point out when Im driving it. ( I realsie that will be alot of extieror mods to accomplish that)

First I want to upgrade my preformance, CAI, Exaust, Sway bars, etc.

Then the exterior mods will be after that...Now I want people to understand that this car is going to just be my daily driver, I dont want a freakin 12 second car. Just improve preformance. And if nessecary I could have it under the knife for a week or so. My dad does have an extra car I can borrow for days in the shop.
I would say my budget is fairly low... I want to spend no more than 3000 on preformance upgrades.

Okay, working with a $3000 budget you can easily do Intake, Full exhaust (header, aftermarket cat, midpipe, catback), Pulleys.

Take a look at this thread (posted above as well) there are lots of ideas here. From what I understand the 97-01 parts will fit your car. The official CAI/Exhaust thread for N/A scoobies - NASIOC

Also add a Kartboy short shifter and shift bushings and you'll be set for the performance side.

Then we'll talk sway bars, as I said before the WRX suspension for the wagon will bolt up to your car no problem.

Then snag a set of headers, exhaust, and intake.

Then just toss money into the suspension.

Subiesport Magainze tried to take a RS and have it compete against the STI. They put thousands of dollars into this car. At the end of they day they put it against a WRX instead and it still lost...with thousands invested.
