Hi All,
First time poster so I apologize if this isn't the right forum to post this in.
I have had my 2011 WRX STI for about 5 years now and since I have had it it has always had an intermittent issue with "engine lag" as I like to call it. Please note that I am not by any means an expert in cars or mechanical knowledge so please bare with me.
My car is stock apart from a turboback exhaust/cold air intake and a tune. This shouldn't be relevant though as it has been this way since I bought it (stock)
The easiest way that I can explain the issue: When I hit 3.5k RPM my engine will 'lag' considerably. This generally happens while increasing speed gradually and often does not occur when I put my foot down hard. This issue has never happened in 1st gear, it happens most frequently in 2nd, rarely in 3rd, rarely in 4th, never in 5th.
So say I am in 2nd gear and accelerating to get to 3rd gear, as soon as I hit 3.5k RPM the car will almost choke and stop accelerating for 1-2 seconds and then continue passed 3.5k fine. It's not a smooth acceleration and kind of rocks you back and forth from the stopped acceleration.
I have taken my car to 2 different mechanics and they haven't been able to pinpoint the problem. 1 of them even said that they couldn't replicate the issue (this issue is prevelant most days but some days it isn't and its as if the engine doesn't have an issue at all)
The car is serviced regularly (5,000km)
Since I'm not mechanically savvy I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this issue before and is able to give me a hand figuring out what is causing this.
Cheers,
Jack
