:confused:This was the race I have been dreaming all about and it happened yesterday. Beautiful Day.

Heading home on Hoover, I spotted a drop dead alsome VIPER srt10. Black with hard roof. The driver was probably a drug dealer because he was heading South towards Detroit like me...

We instantly made contact and we went at it on Hoover a few times. I would boost and stop and he would run and stop. It was teaser time.:)

The real race began when we HIT 8 Mile. The turn off of Hoover onto 8 mile lead to a RED light. The game was on :)

....GO...we stayed together in 1st gear....I was gentle with my 1-2 gear shift because of my stock tranny, so he gained a little. His rear was at my front fender...but when I finished my 2nd gear shift and was WOT, I slowly was pulling on him. I was impressed so far. Thru all of 2nd gear, I started to pull even with him....THE MONSTER GEAR (THIRD GEAR) approached and I changed gears very fast. I was slowly walking him...and then he gave up:confused:

I won. Either he chickend out and gave me the win, or he missed a gear. Maybe he stopped racing because he did not want any more attention...afraid of getting caught by the police...drug dealer?

Whatever the reason...I raced the biggest race and my dream race...I can die a happy man now. I was impressed with my car...4 wheel power does play a roll against the big guys. I know if we ran any futher, he might had killed me, but he gave up. I'm sure it will be different the next time we meet.

Note: the viper could possible be a very old VIPER and the driver may really have sucked. Maybe the car was not running good?

All I know is that I raced a VIPER on 8 Mile around 5:30 PM with 100 of cars around us. 8 Mile is a 4 lane road.

i pulled a debadged something-or-other with aftermarket exhaust of some kind. it looked like a 6 banger of some sort, but the owner had done at least some cosmetic (and exhaust work).

we were in the same lane and, as oportunity presented itself, i moved left and he nailed it. i cleanly pulled him through 2nd and 3rd through a long sweeper. as we wrapped up at a stop light, he rolled down his window and offered due props.

he said he was running around 210hp. i was running a stock 08 STi w/a Cobb/Perrin Stage 1/93. i forgot to ask him what the hell kinda POS he was driving. ;)

i did compliment him on his ride; according to The Manual.

Vipers are not exactly light either, truck based supercar.
l imagine 3rd gear hits like a hammer with an the 18g.

Yes. I drove one of the older "slow" Vipers. It was a 95 SRT-10 (way back when they only had 410 hp). I've never been in a WRX with an 18g, but that viper sure moved. The thing that amazed me the most was the instant throttle response. Nothing at all like the turbo imports I'm used to.

That's gotta be a mighty impressive WRX to have kept up with the snake (on its home turf no less) Nice kill!

All due respect but I've been in Viper's and I'd have to believe that maybe he started to race but then backed off a bit because of cold feet worrying about cops or traffic. I've been in Viper's and there's just now way you'd beat him from a rolling start. WRX's are alright, but no match for a Viper in a rolling start unless its driven by someone who doesn't know how to shift.
But racing on 8 mile...thats nuts.

The race was from a dig. :)

Racing in heavy traffic is awesome.

My guess is the viper was toying with you and decided not to give it a go since it was heavy traffic.

But none the less keep your head up because you beat a viper street racing...way to go.

Having been in several Vipers from several different years....my guess is he wasnt trying or missed a shift and gave up. Once he gets rolling he would have reeled you in VERY quickly.

Your setup might make peak torque what he makes at 3k rpms.

Acutally 8 MILE is 4-5 lanes. When we started at the light, we were in the middle lanes. Plus 8 MILE lights are all synced, so if you start at a green light, you can pretty much go 3-4 miles straight without hitting a red light. So, the conditions were PERFECT. There was zero traffic in front of us for at least a mile. Plus 100 of cars behind us.

It's pretty funny now that I think about it. I'm sure we made an alsome scene for the drivers behind us and for the 15-20 people ahead of us waiting for a bus. Those bus people must have been saying WHAT the!

All that I know is that...no cops...perfect conditon...lets go. Too bad he chicked out after 3rd gear.:sadwave:

Cars behind you - "Jeez look at those *******s! They're going to kill someone!"

People waiting for the bus - "Holy **** here comes some more *******s racing. Oh god they're going to kill us. Somebody get their license plates so we can report them."

You sir are an ass. I pray when you lose control of your car you only extinguish your own worthless life instead of innocent people in your path.

Please stop trying to paint a picture of street racing not being reckless.

You started saying 100's of cars were around...then you go on to say the people behind you had to be impressed (everyone loves a good street race right). Followed by the people standing waiting for the bus had to be impressed (they know now Subaru's own super cars). You also state that no cops = perfect conditions.

Now you are public safety number one saying how there is no chance anyone would get hurt.

Get over it please....you beat a car that wasnt trying to race you. Your dreams are now complete.

hmmmm ok lets see.

18G. Lets just assume you have a nice 300 WHP car there k?

according to Wikipedia:

SRT10 92'-95'
The engine weighed 711 lb (323 kg) and produced 400 hp (298 kW) at 4600 rpm and 465 ft·lbf (630 N·m) of torque at 3600 rpm

it was also very light in comparison to modern Ferraris with a curb weight of 3280 lb (1488 kg)

# 0-60: 4.5 sec
# 0-100: 10.0 sec
# quarter mile: 12.5 sec @ 120 mph (193 km/h)
# top speed: +180 mph (290 km/h) (confirmed by Road and Track magazine / 1992)

SRT10 96'-2002
450 bhp
# 0-60: 4.0 sec
# 0-100: 8.6 sec
# quarter mile: 12.2 sec @ 118 mph (190 km/h)
# top speed: +190 mph (306 km/h)

Anything newer than 2002 is a waste of time comparing to you.

lets say it was a 92' k? 400HP with less drivetrain loss> 300 WHP. And with 465 ftlbs....Gobs more torque.
Can you run faster than a 12.5 quarter mile?

Ya im pretty sure he wasnt racing you, more like seeing how much gas it would take to stay with you....then deciding it wasnt worth the gas.

my .02$

I have found that their are alot of street racer haters on this site but i say power to ya. I came was driving home from work last summer and i just so happen to run into my friends dad tht owns 3 vipers 2 corvetts and a new ford GT.. Yeah its a prety nice garage. But anywho i rolled up on him in his Ford GT and all i have to say is my WRX stood no chance. Before i even knew the race was going it was over.... after we stopped and talked at sonic when he offered me a ride in his crazy ****ing car. That was probably the fastest car i had ever been in. Hands down.

Let me put it this way...if anyone of you had the chance...would you take the once in a life time race? or go home crying because you were scared and did not want to know...WHAT IF?

I was scared at first...but thought ...hey...this chance will never come again.

I'm sure 99% of you will ever see a VIPER, let alone go head to head with one.

I took my chance and I was very suprized at the outcome.

Don't think too deep guys...there has been far worse races on this forum and other forum.

This is minor.

It's called self control. Grow up, and learn some. I know it's hard to resist whipping your **** out to prove it's bigger when you need constant reassuring. Lame man, lame.

There's no such thing as a safe street race or "perfect condition" for a street race bud. If you have common sense you would know better to take it to the tracks.

There are two across the street from my work as we speak - I have no desire to race them.
