hi everyone, i'm doing my first oil change at home and i was wondering, How much oil does my 2004 Sti take? i have heard the factory manual gives you the wrong amount to put in and i don't want to kill my car. can anyone help me out?

I the number in my manual is spot on. Go by the manual. So, put in half to a quarter quart less and use the dipstick to tell you when it's full.
Of all the cars I have checked oil on (I worked at a full serve gas station for 2+ years many moons ago) I find the WRX dipstick to be tricky to read.
My best readings seem to come from cold engine with the oil lamp marking right side up as shown below. The two sides of the dipstick read do seem to read differently. Parked on a level surface of course.
The WRX 2.0 liter calls for 4.8 quarts. At 4.75 (easy to measure) the dipstick reads right at the full mark.
I do not know how the 2004 STi reads.
