BUILD LOG:
WRX-maniac's 2012 STi Limited Sedan

The Story:
I traded in my 2011 WRX for this STi in June of 2016. It has been my dream to own an STI since I could drive. With finally owning one, my goals are to eventually end up making this car my weekend warrior/track car. Although I will have to DD it for a few years. My main focus will be making good horsepower, while building up the suspension and drivetrain components at the same time. Overall I just want this car to be everything I have always envisioned it to me in my mind, and have fun while doing it. Hope you enjoy!

Love all of the new posts and the car is looking awesome. The seat install pics are great. I've been looking into upgrading as well, and it's also great to see that the passenger seat airbag sensor swap actually works for someone outside of a YouTube video. I'm going to see if I can get my car posted up by SAM one of these days. I had a shoot done by one of their photogs last Fall that came out pretty well.

Hi man, great build! Just wanna ask if you're using spacers for the wheels?
Hey, thanks! I am running no spacers. I hate spacers and will do everything in my power to never have to run them.

Well last monday my fiancé was in a bad head on collision accident. Thankfully her civic si did its job and saved her from serious injuries. She is banged up and very sore. The si was obviously totaled. She was interested in a newer si, another wrx, or a ford edge ST. After some searching, yesterday we found and bought her a 2019 Ford Edge ST that is fully loaded and only has 19k miles and 1 owner. Thing looks brand new. She loves it, and although I am not a Ford fan, the ST edge is pretty sweet and has a 2.7L v6 twin turbo'd ecoboost engine and gets down for an suv. So here's to welcoming the new Ford to our stable.

I had no idea either! But the thing is pretty sweet!
So, I have always been the guy to preach about sticking with a TMIC as long as you can. Now obviously when I went big rotated turbo, a TMIC was no longer in the cards for me. For the longest time I felt having an open hood scoop with a FMIC was beneficial with having fresh air coming into the engine bay to help with engine and under hood temps. Turns out, I was wrong. This actually has the opposite effect.

Bringing me to my point, the ole lady got me the Verus Engineering hood scoop block off plate for Christmas. Looking forward to getting it installed and watching my temps to see if it really makes a difference. As always, I will post pics when install is done.

You know I have an engineering-first mindset and am exceptionally critical of those that go FMIC as a "first mod."

You would have earned my ire for sticking with a TMIC with how modified your car is. There is a place for TMIC and a place for FMIC and you crossed that boundary a while back.

Without the restriction from the TMIC, I'm not surprised the scoop leads to flow stall in the engine bay where the air from the hood scoop meets the laminar air from front air dam and radiator.

So I think I will also be ordering the hood louvers from Verus as well to go with the hood scoop block off. The heat needs a place to escape. These two things together should drastically increase cooling system effectiveness and reduce heat in the engine bay.
My Jeep hood is vented and I'm 50/50 on it. It solves the hood flutter but I think it's tied to my cooling issues as I've basically redone the entire cooling system. It's hard to get the engine to operating temperature and stay there. It's really noticable when it's cold out.

I went ahead and ordered the Verus hood louvers. Once I have them I will be taking the hood off the car and mocking everything up. Ill be sure to post pictures of the before and after, as well as progress during the install.
I'll be excited to see it. Keep an eye on coolant temp too. I'm on year 2 of trying to solve my issue and it's the only thing I can imagine. Also, you blocked the scoop just to add more holes lol.
Well the STi is not ran in the winter. This whole thing with the louvers and hood scoop block off is to make the intercooler and cooling more efficient, and allowing engine temps to escape at the hottest point. I watched videos and read some information. Seems the R&D done by verus is legit and other have tested it to back up their claim. I will be watching my intake temps and coolant temps come spring when I get the car back out.
Well the STi is fully winterized and in the garage for the winter. I pulled the wheels off to get them clean and ceramic coated. While the wheels are off I decided to check the brakes. I have had the current rotors and pads on since 2019 with some pretty hard driving and braking. The pads are darn near the end of their life. I feel the rotors would be okay but Im replacing them as well. Sticking with DBA, but going up in their rotors a step. Just ordered these for all 4 corners as well as Hawk HPS pads.

Well, over the weekend I finally got the Verus Engineering hood scoop block off plate and hood louvers installed.

Let me tell you, cutting up your only hood is a bit nerve racking! But the templates given by Verus are great, and I quadruple checked all measurements before taping them down for good to make the cuts. I took my time with the cutting and drilling holes and everything turned out great and they look awesome! Eventually I may touch up the bottom of the hood because those cuts are pretty horrid. But it looks good and they are 100% functional. After 2 days of drilling, cutting, deburring, filing, touch up painting, and test fitting, I finished it up with a 3 step paint correction on the hood and i am pretty damn proud of myself!

Also my front brakes came in a week or so ago. Now that my hood is done, I plan on finally getting the car on stands next weekend and start doing some maintenance. I still have to order the rear brakes. But I will be doing things like take the wheels off, cleaning them and ceramic coating them. Doing rotors and pads all around, and changing the engine oil. I will be posting pics as these things get done over the rest of the winter.
