Hey so I'm trying to figure out if what I'm paying for insurance is good or bad. I'm sure this sort of thread can be found somewhere but I'm a newb and don't want to dig. Also- every time I do dig, the thread is years old and I don't want to be posting on stuff that's 12 years old. What's everyone paying for their car? Year/ price/ carrier and amount. Also I suppose if you've been in an accident or any crazy speeding tickets ...or not? What should I be paying? Never been in an accident or had any crazy tickets and I feel like I'm being robbed....
What other people pay is not of concern to you. If you can't find a company to give you a similar quote, you're still stuck paying what they offer you. It's not like you have any negotiating leverage.
Shop around to see what you are quoted; it can vary significantly. Years ago, I had insurance for under $1200/year from Liberty Mutual and was quoted $6500/year from Amica for the same policy terms (no accidents / tickets on my driving record). My rates are better now, but that's a good example of how much they can vary.
Location, driving record, credit score, etc. can all impact the quotes you're given.
If you have a body shop in mind, talk to them about the insurance companies. Sometimes, they have a preferred one that they work with. Some insurance companies offer a higher hourly rate for work done, are quicker to write checks, are easier to deal with, etc. which could go in your favor if the vehicle isn't being totaled out after an accident.
