Why is my car so quiet?

For everyone who isn't stalking me, I picked up a new 2017 WRX M6 Premium on the 29th of March this year. No mods yet. It's quiet. Windows up or down, the only time I really hear the engine is when I'm approaching 3500 rpm, and even then, it's really quiet. Usually, when I see another WRX on the road, I can hear it pretty well. Not sure if it's normal or not. I have no problems hearing the 4.0 SOHC engine in my Sport Trac while driving with the windows up. Is there something I can do to get it to where I can hear the engine noise without stripping out insulation or replacing parts that require a new tune? Thanks.

Axle Back exhaust would help.
because stock cars aren't supposed to be loud and it's a twin scroll turbo'd 4 banger?

Seriously though, like Goose said, If you're not looking to tune, an axle back exhaust is your best bet. The one ETS makes is very nice, as well as Nameless.
I don't mean fart can loud. I'm used to wearing ear plugs while riding my motorcycle (with stock cans). It's odd that a stock Explorer is louder than a performance car. And thanks, I'll look into axle-back exhaust systems.
This may be my impression but the sound has become more noticeable the longer I drive the car. I currently have about 12K miles on it.

It has a nice low burble in low gears. With hard acceleration it whines quite a bit more--kind of a high-pitched 4-cylinder roar. My fiancée was driving it around the block the other day and it was seriously loud to me as a bystander--actually surprised me.

Overall though it is quieter and less dramatic than the prior generation, but that's OK with me. My goal is not to scare the young children in the neighborhood.
...where I can hear the engine noise without stripping out insulation...
HA! I'm constantly adding insulation all over. There is not much you can strip out.

I'm new to Subaru and always wondered.. What does the (M6) stand for? I see it on the dealership websites as well. I can't find anything online about what that code means.
