6.8 is for the auto - either shape will record in the mid to high 6's 0-60.

I've timed my stock wagon (by hand, inaccurate I know) at 5.9 sec 0-60 at nearly 6000 ft, with a less than perfect launch (one hand on the stopwatch don't ya know!). That'll shame a Mustang GT at this altitude no problem.

In boston you have to deal with crazy ass driving conditions. I could see someone in lets say Arizona or So Cal saying this stuff but for people who want to be able to drive their baby all year long in the NorhtEast- AWD is the way to go.

This coming from a guy who's corvette lease ran out a few months back. That car was scary even in the rain.

I'll race any year vette in the snow and feel confident that I would not only win- but survive. I'm sure all of you that have had 300+hp RWD cars have experienced the trepadation of having to drive knowing that a 180 degree spin is only a small ice patch away.

Anyway- also remember that these are not drag cars- but fun quick, great handling reliable autos.
-just as fun, if not more fun than my 40k vette.

bleah....the last French-designed vehicle I owned was a 1988 Jeep Wrangler...I still cringe thinking about it....I don't care if it craps gold nuggets I'm not getting into a French car.
I think you would enjoy the new Peugeots. Or the Renault Clio V16. Great potential, great chassis, a friend of mine told me it's a lot of fun to drive. They are GREAT french cars.

Well, yes, me too... sometimes, I drive around and the car doesn't feel like it's pushing anymore. Just being spoiled. And we have to admit that you get very quickly to 60mph, so quickly that sometimes I don't realize I'm there yet and my passengers are like "It's fast but it's not that fast"... until they see how fast we get to 60.

I think the AWD and turbocharged(that turbo singing and kicking in on my Brother's Renault Super 5 GT Turbo was the best ever... only 115hp) made me really want to buy that car. I love the WRC so like any other "kid", I was excited to drive a "rally car".

And the street racing thing, beat by another "lame" car, or whatever else, well, we are all in a 0.5 second pocket sometimes. And the WRX can beat a lot of car off the line and can loose against a lot of cars off the line. Don't get me started on people who never drove a manual before owning a WRX. Plus the drop or slip the clutch deal. And rolling start. And my shoe is wet. And he had a fat cow in his car but I had 3 buddies. And on and on.

I think it's a great car. A lot of fun. And if you start asking yourself why 227hp and $25k while a Neon can have 215hp and turbo for under $20k and a fully loaded new Accord for $27k with 240hp and... and... well, you will hurt yourself, all day.

It's up to you to enjoy it or to sell it. Whatever makes you happy.

First of all, you won't get beat by a G35 if you know how to drive your car. My best friend and I just went down there yesterday and looked at them b/c he might get one. He test drove the 4 door (both two doors they had on the lot where sold) and it was pretty fast buy no where near a Rex and the 4 door just has twenty less hp.

Second- A G35 coupe is going to cost you 37000-38000 dollars. The dealer told us not to expect any 31500 dollar ones for some time.

Third- The trunk on the G35's is non-existant, they have to have a diagram just to show people how to fit 2 golf bags in it.

Fourth- I paid 27000 bucks for a car that does 6.7 0-60's and runs 15.1-14.9 quater miles. The whole 6.8 0-60 probably came from a driver that just slammed on the gas from idle. I have seen stock Rex's run 14.4-14.6's all day on an engine that isn't even broken in.
Mashing the gas doesnt help you go faster?
So pushing it down steadily is faster then mashing on an auto?

I referring to the 6.8 time on the Rex. What I was trying to say is that the test driver probably didn't get the rpm up before he hit the gas therefore turbo lag big time.

The 227hp is not that special. It all matters how you use it, and what it is being used on. A lightweight car with 227hp (and 3000lbs is not lightweight, it's avg) can still suck if the gearing is bad, as a wuss of a motor in a metro can still tear up the track if geared right (and yeah, its very strange). The exceptional stuff about the rex is the awd and it's price.

BTW: for those who go nutz about the torque in the wrx, yes I agree it is ok, but don't get carried away if you have not experienced many other vehicles in similar classes.

I don't think I'd be happy with 'stock' HP numbers from ANY car manufacturer for very long, unless it was a Viper or something.

When you get used to having 227, then you want 300--when your used to that, then you want 350...then 400. The potential is here on the WRX and it is cheap to do it. Granted, it might take $5K to get you there, but your doubling your HP, try to do THAT in ANY non-turbo car for $5K, and you CAN'T do it. This is comming from someone who put $10K into my 3000GT (non-turbo), and it was fast, but only gained maybe 50HP (and each component cost twice the $$$ as the same component for the WRX!). I also wanted AWD, and it came down to a WRX, or a 3000GT VR4 to replace my wrecked one. With the WRX weighing in at like 600-800lbs less, I chose this.

I somewhat agree with you on this one, but I think after a while I'd even want to mod my viper. I've mentioned this on a different thread before, but my neighbor's kids have 5 vipers to share between the three of them and none of them are stock. One of them has a mostrous nitrous tank that takes up the entire trunk. Point is that no matter how much hp you have, there's always room and want for improvement.

Their dad is a corporate lawyer that scored big in an Exxon or Shell lawsuit, I can't quite remember which one. They also own a few businesses around town. They always have the new cool car parked in front of their house. What's the craze now? The 350Z. Guess what...they have it in front of their house. Am I jealous? Hell no...but that's debatable:D

Just be glad you arent stuck with a good looking - but slow as balls Si. You're just going through the phase where you get used to your horsepower. Everyone goes through this...first they awe at the higher horsepower than previous car, then they mod thier car, then they find out it isnt all that and a bucket of beans.

sheesh, when i went from my 88 dual exhaust Dodge Caravan to a 00 Honda Civic Si...i was like holllyyyyyysheeeeeeeeeet!!!

...yes, i DID say DUAL EXHAUST!
