I'm nearing the decision to get a WRX (Now a have a G35 sedan, I plan to bay a second car for my wife:)). Just curious to hear from current owners.
What do you like least about your Impreza?

I'm not interested in what you like the most, because I know there is so much to like about the car that hearing your gripes will be more useful...

I have a WRX sedan, the back seat don't fold down, you only have a ski hole, thats probably what I don't like the most.

-Tranny is hard to shift when it is cold outside (mid 20s right now), but it's fine once it warms up.
-1st gear too short, 4th and 5th too tall.
-Stereo sucks.
-No stock boost gauge and the optional one reads in mpa, not psi like it should.
-One cupholder is right above the stereo.
-Front/rear seat bottom height not independently adjustable.
-Stock wheels and tires.
-Side skirts not body colored

2 biggest dislikes:

Sun Visors - The cheapest I've ever seen in a car.
Reverse - Can be tricky to engage.

Do yourself a favor. Give the G35 to the wife, buy a WRX manual for yourself :D

I have to say reverse is no more hard than on my 93 Escort I had. :) No issues at all. Maybe it's because I'm used to that kind of gear. Just go into first, and then reverse. You'll find that 99/100 times you leave your car in FIRST at night, next morning you can start the car and pull it straight from first into reverse. :)

Thing I like the least? Hmmmm...it does sound like a tractor in the cold, until it's warmed up. And um....the HORRIBLE beeps the alarm system makes when arming/disarming. Yes I know you can disable it but sometimes I have problems when there are any transmitters around when I lock/unlock my car. Sometimes it can take me a good 30 seconds to unlock/lock my car :( and the noise is helpful then...but too loud!! Oh, and I dislike the driving lights linked to the handbrake. I ALWAYS use my handbrake on extended stops at lights etc...and a few people were a little irritated with me 'flashing' them.

Doh! :)

My biggest problem is that it's tricky to do a 2-1 shift above 15 or so MPH. This probably won't be an issue if you do aren't planning to autocross or do track events. My only other issue is that the engine doesn't seem to rev as freely as it should. I hear doing a little exhaust work goes a long way towards clearing that up.

Reverse

My last 2 vehicles ('97 Mustang GT & '99 A4) were not as tough to engage reverse. The 1st to reverse worked well with them, but with the WRX I need to double clutch it 50% of the time.

The main thing I don't like is that I don't get to drive it enough... the wife uses it as her daily driver because she doesn't like driving the truck.

1) Thin/cheap paint
2) Stock suspension is way too soft
3) Stock rims and tires
4) Available power on the roll (now I'm talking stock)
5) Having a restrictive 3 catalytic converter exhaust system.
6) Most people won't have a problem with this....can't slam shift from 1st to 2nd gear(I just miss the 1st to 2nd gear slam or power shifts in my 96 Z28 that would break the tires loose).

Frameless windows are horrible. Easier to break into, and worse sealing.

Something in the window mechanism funks up the window everytime you roll it down, so it always has streaks on it. Squeaky too.

Stock tires are very poor.

No fold-down rear seats.

Tranny. Going into first at anything above 2 MPG grinds. 1 to 2 upshift not as smooth as it could be.

Wait a second! Are we WRX fans or WRX haters? You can't tell from looking at this thread.

As for the tires, I have NO issue with them. Maybe they're not the best, but I went round a VERY sharp on-ramp at quite a high speed with 3 passengers and it was fantastic. Add that to the normal everyday twisties and I've not had a sound from the tires in 3 months I've owned the car.

Other WRX owners *****ing and whining about their cars, go buy something else if the WRX is such a terribly manufactured $25,000 car....

Other than that, idiots looking at me then reving their engines beside me at red light, in parking lots, whatever, or catching up on a four lane, slowing beside me, then reving and speeding off, only to slow and do the same thing again two miles ahead. And in a simliar manner, people who refuse to be overtaken by a WRX on the highway and continue to speed up and slow down over and over, and I've got cruise control set. These people are usually in an Eclipse, Accord, Civic, newer Cougar, older Cavalier, or some $200 beater.

This question comes around every few months. Nothing new under the sun here.

Some points:

What's wrong with the wheels?
Strong 16-inch aluminum at 16.5 lbs stock? Sounds good to me.

And that comment about 5th gear being too tall. How can the overdrive gear be too tall...where do you go from there?

And again, this list so far only proves that the WRX is a performance focused car. You get $25K worth of power and handling at good quality. That's pretty much it. Love it or hate it...I don't know of any WRX owners who regrets their purchase...except those drooling for the Sti.
