Anyone else get this in the mail? Farrish Subaru is offering to buy back my '02 WRX (any '98-'02 suburu) if I buy an '04 or '05 at MSRP (base model) for my year model, minus some milage deductions.

I'm partly interested, but partly wondering what the scam is.

Anyone else out there get this?

I've gotten the same thing fro another dealer. Its a Subaru thing. Its not that good of a deal since they deduct money for mileage. I worked it out on my car (even tho mines an 03), and it was no more than I could get selling it privately. But it does make it easy to get rid of the car if you want to upgrade to a newer Subie.

I think is just a way to hook you into another 5 years of payments (interest = profit for them). Interest is probably up there.
Your current car has depreciated already. their money already on the original financing (probably). They'll buy the car cheap (trade in price). Sell it for full book value, and make a profit.

Buy Back

It depends on how good of a deal you can negotiate.

I had an 02WRX with about 27K miles.

I negotiated $16,500 for my trade in, cost me $21K, or about $125 per month of ownership. My car was bought for cash, so no financing cost. The dealer first offered me $14,750 for my trade. They deducted 32 cents per mile from the original MSRP, but I got them down to low 20s per mile.

I negotiated a Forrester XT for $22,215 thereby the net cost for a brand new car, $5,715. However, being to trade in my car for $125 depreciation per month made my deal too enticing to pass up.

Its pretty much a joke, I talked to my friend who is a dealer at subaru. The thing is they take off the trade in value for miles and they can charge the miles from like 5 cents to 70 cents a mile. Technically you could even get less for this trade in then the normal way. Its just a way to draw people in, nothing else.
