I was hoping someone could look over my work and let me know what you think. Does everything make sense because I think I'm a bit confused here. Thanks in advance.

Install:
Very easy. Directions weren't half as bad as some people made them out to be. The fitment sucks though. I was able to get one bolt to hold my kickplate back on. I dont know why or how this happened but it didn't fit back on well at all. The hose for the ABC was very tight and barely made it to its designated location. Once it was there, there wasnt enough hose to sit the ABC vertically as shown on the directions. Instead, it sits on an angle. No biggie though. Pics...





I installed the remote map switch as well. Install was very easy but it would have helped if I knew exactly what to do with the wires. Maybe a seperate set of instructions would be nice.

Uploaded some maps or thought I did. We left map1 alone, the ONLY preprogrammed map from TXS?? Uploaded the stageII base map from TXS in map2. Map3 is the stage2 plus uppipe from wrxhackers. For some reason, when we were hypertermed into the UTEC and watch the map changes, they DID NOT correspond with the selections I made on my switch. Map 1(switch) read map1(laptop). Map2 did not read on the laptop. Instead it jumped right to map3. turned the switch to map3, laptop read map3. After going through the other maps, it seems that when there isnt one present it jumps to the next. But why didnt my number2 map work? I downloaded it from TXS website and uploaded it the same exact way as the other one that did work.

The ABC....it seems to me that I have this thing maxed out. I must have turned it 5-8 times to acheive about 15psi. Something about this didnt seem right.

Power. I am honestly not all that impressed. It seems just as fast as the car was before.

Backfire: Just as bad as before if not worse. Not that I expected it to get any better but I just wanted to mention it in hopes that there is something I can do(besides take the SSQV off) to help. It's really annoying.

with that log it is hard to tell what is going on. I will assume that when you ran lean, your foot was off the gas. It is perfectly normal to get a lean reading while decelerating, don't worry about it. In the future, for boost adjustment, log 3 is good, for timing, 1 is good, and for map adjustment, you need to use log 4. On that note, now would be a good time read apendix a in the utec manual, and adjust your map gradient and intercept in the special preferences... If your map isn't calibrated, your utec will not work correctly.

On the note of boost. At altitude(really high up) it is harder to achieve the same boost as at sea level. This could be the prob. Another prob could be the way you are adjusting your boost. With stock settings(and most normal settings), you will see more boost ealier in the rpm range the higher the gear is. This means that if you set your boost to 15psi at 5000rpm in 2nd gear, you could get 19psi at 4000rpm in 4th gear. Therefore you should adjust your boost in the highest gear that you are planning on running your car hard, cause you will overboost in higher gears then the one you set your boost in. This would be why many people set their boost in 4th gear, and never push the car that hard in 5th.....

Your only hitting about 14.5 psi, no wonder it feels slow. Make sure you are running the stage II map. When using the remote switch, the UTEC map switch must be on 0. You may also need to do the MAP calibration (see manual). Also, look into closed loop boost control.

Thanks for the reply, hippie. I will be sure to calibrate the TPS and MAP today when I get home. As far as the boost goes, I did set it to hit around 16 in 3rd gear, not 4th. But for some reason, it doesn't hit right away. Instead, it builds through the RPM band.

-calibrated tps and map(i know the tps is right, not sure about that map)
-logged with logger1 as instructed.
Does this look better? I had a knock in 4th 100 with 100%tps, uphill with hardly any gas(read this morning this is bad)


Question: If stock mode is switch0 on my remote, should I be tuning(boost) under this mode or not? I ask because we didn't. We tuned boost with a stageII with uppipe map and once we reached full boost, thought it was all gravy. However, if I drive in stock mode, I overboost.

ok, first thing first. Setting the map gradient and intercept is pretty simple. Get in the car, log in number 4 with the key in but the car off, and take down the digmap number. Also take down what your boost gauge reads. Then run your car in 3rd gear on a highway ramp till your boost peaks, notice what your gauge says, stop the log. Right down the two numbers and compute.

Next... You can't just change the number in special preferences to 0 and expect your car to run normally in closed loop mode. I would say that changing to closed loop boost this early is probably a good thing, just so your don't have to figure out how the boost control works twice. Anywho, here is a little explination of what I think you should do to adjust your car the first time. I am no expert, so do anything I say here at your own risk:)... and good luck.

First thing would be to make sure in special preferences that the boost control is set to 0, and the gain is set to 50. Then, set the maximum value for mapping psi to your desired(peak) psi, and the minimum value for mapping psi should be 0. Then you need to come up with a boost number for your map. I would set it to something like 250-280 on the whole map(where it had numbers before not where it had ecu)...one number on the whole map. Open the abc up about two turns. Go out onto the highway, and get into 4th gear at about 2600rpm, and push it till you get to about 4000rpm. Adjust the abc till you are getting about the right psi when your boost peaks(should have to open it a little more).

Now that you have about the right boost in fouth gear.... Change all of the numbers in the map from 250rpm to 4000rpm to 500. Then drive on the highway, repeat what you did b4, and log, when your car overboosts(or a little b4) take your foot off the throttle. Then go to the log and check what rpm you overboosted at, and adjust the boost map so in the rpm range b4 your overboosted, you change the number to 450 along with all the 500's in higher rpm ranges. Repeat..... This is how you find the best numbers for good spool in a specific gear. The last numbers will be what you started with, and the numbers b4 will sorta ramp down. these are my numbers for my normal road map(you need to find your own though cause all cars spool different)...

250-3000rpm-500
3250 - 400
3500-4250 -320
4500-9000 250

Obviously if you set your spool in fourth, you will overboost in fifth gear because there is more load. If you set it in third, you will overboost in fourth and fifth. Most people don't push their cars in fifth, which is why it is good to set the whole map to ramp in fourth if you don't want to overboost. There are ways to set up racing boost maps though. Obviously when drag racing, you only need to spool up quick in first gear, then you have boost in the rest of the gears... For this kind of setup, it would be good to have the normal fourth gear boost settings in the whole map except the 100 percent tps column.

In the 100%tps column are boost/spool settings for first gear. You set the boost the same way as in fourth, but with first, and when driving, you'd only hold the pedal down all the way in first gear, and any amound under all the way for the rest of the gears. Obviously if you pushed the throttle all the way with this setup in any gear other then first, the car would overboost. A first gear column would look more like this...

0-4750rpm-500
5000-6000- 300
6000-9000 -250

On a reality note:)... If you aren't worried about spool so much, you can skip all the steps where you try to find the best spooling number, and just leave the origional number you put in b4 adjusting the abc in the whole map..... The main point was you can;t expect to use the open loop numbers, adjust the abc and have everythig be cool. At the least, change all the numbers in the map to one number, and readjust the abc(to 16psi in 4th gear). If you only use one number, the utec will use the gain to adjust the boost curve. This means that if you want the turbo to spool fast with one number, start with a low gain(like 40 or whatever you want under 50) and one number in the map, then adjust the abc to 16psi in fourth gear. The lower the gain, the more the car will overboost.....

on a boost tuning note, you can tune any map you want. then switch over to it. you don't even need the switch if you have a computer because you can just copy a map from one slot to another.... also, you can do it the way you were doing it:)....

Thanks, Hippy. I am going to be working on this and the carputer all weekend. I will post UTEC results when I get some:)

One quick question. Ive read over and over to back the ABC out two turns to start with. However, I already have it opened up pretty good. Can I just turn the abc towards less boost until it stops? Or is there another way to do it?
