So I'm going to be doing a v7 ej207 swap into my 03 wrx very soon. After looking into this engine it is apparent that the spec C is an improved version of the ej207, however the spec C is much harder to come by. I was wondering if it would be a better idea to just buy an ej207 and build it up to the specs of the spec C version. I know some of the differences that the spec C has are a vf34 turbo, better flowing heads, more aggressive cams, an external oil cooler, and I think it had DCCD instead of a viscous center diff? If there's anything else I'm missing please let me know and I would appreciate all opinions on this build and if it's worth building up the v7 ej207 engine or should I wait for an actual spec C to become available?
