Okay, weird question time.

I need to devise a way of transporting my 16' canoe atop my sedan. On the old Bonneville I'd use foam blocks on the gunwales and just tie it front and back... but the WRX is considerably shorter than the Bonneville.... it's like 14', and there will be some significant overhang. Anyone think this will present a problem? Any ideas, short of buying a truck?

This isn't exactly cheap but buy a Yakima rack:

or a Thule:

I've always been partial to Yak but that's just a personal preference. They both are excellent products.

The nice thing is that once you have the initial setup you can get attachments to carry anything, skis, bikes, lumber, luggage, just about anything. They even sell bar attachments so you can make your own attachment, or attach somebody else's attachment.

I don't think the additional overhang will present a problem - I've transported 24' pieces of trim on top of my CRX! (don't try this at home, kiddies!) And 18' 4x4's on my Yak rack on the WRX.
