Transmission failure on 2016 wrx?

Hi everyone!

I have a 2016 WRX with an automatic CVT transmission and 79k miles. While driving yesterday up a mountain road my RPM's suddenly increased, check engine light turned on and the car had troubles going uphill. I pulled over, looked for any dripping oil/fluids and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. When I tried to put the car back in drive, the car would not move forward. I used my OBD2 scanner and the codes I pulled are P0700 and P0841, however, transmission fluid levels were not low. I had the car towed to a local transmission shop, but they haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

Anyone else experience this? Have any suggestions of what to do? Really hoping I don't have to pay $6k+ for a new transmission...

I know several people who have smoked cvt transmissions not just in the wrx. There are a few things it could be, if the hill was steep enough it could have pooled fluid somewhere funny. Or you could have smoked it with hard driving. Maybe a sensor.

Is the car modified? Try changing the fluid

Car is bone stock. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm really hoping its a sensor issue causing the car to go into some kind of safe mode? If it does need a new trans, whats your opinion on putting a used one in? Seen some relatively low mileage trans for about half the cost of new.

It could be. Id research if maybe a temp issue triggered it.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used cvt. They are much more difficult to inspect.
