Congrats man! What are your minor mods? I've got just over 5000 miles on my 2017 WRX Premium 6MT in Centrum Silver. I'm currently running an ETS intake on stock tune with 93 octane, Perrin short-shift adapter (was a betch to install lol, real minimal clearance), Perrin shifter bushing (if you're doing the shift adapter, may as well grab the bushing while you're up there), Perrin shifter stop, and some Rally Armor urethane mud flaps. Next year after we get hammered with a Buffalo, NY winter I'm doing the ETS TBE. I can't decide if I want the J-pipe resonated or straight-piped. I heard one guy's straight-piped muffler delete and it was very ricey, with all the snap crackles and pops. As much fun as that'd be on the track, I need something that won't drive my wife totally crazy, so no muffler delete for me. We don't seem to have many options for pro-tune out here, so OTS maps should suit me just fine (or maybe an E-tune if I find a reputable tuner). I'm just looking for tasteful mods, and nothing that'll cannibalize the rest of the OE parts.

Wow quite the list of stuff! I don't plan on doing anything right now that will touch the warranty. So only doing little things like Perrin shift stop, RA flaps, tint, and trying to find a place here in IA that will do an opticoat paint sealant. I dont really trust myself on that one lol. Maybe next summer some lips and skirts, minor exterior mods. Once the warranty is up though Im thinking Invidia Q300 exhaust and some coilovers.
2017 WRX Limited Red - MT
- Navigation and sound package
Keyless start and various alerts
- Short throw shifter
- Performance Exhaust
- Auto dim mirror w/compass & homelink
The ETS intake by itself will not void the warranty because the MAF housing is the same diameter as the OEM diameter. ETS recommends a tune on 91 octane. 93 can go on stock tune. The only reason a warranty would come into question is if the ECU is flashed.

Subaru Service went into detail on this topic as it's a very big gray area in favor of voiding warranties.
Any deviation from OE hardware is subject to question, but not guaranteed to void the warranty.
Catback exhaust will not void because you're not screwing with O2 or MAF sensors.
I agree the intake comes into question because most aftermarket intakes require a tune.
The dealer can tell immediately if the ECU is flashed, which is a dead giveaway and instant void.
I asked about my Perrin Short Shift adapter since it bolts onto the transmission. Subaru Service said "if the transmission fails, the transmission is covered, not the bolt-on item. Any electrical upgrade will void the warranty."
In the end, it comes down to if you can convince the tech that the OE part failed on its own, not induced by beating on the car or modifying beyond the intended capability. If you have any question in your ability to backup your claim, then wait to mod until after the warranty period.

The service department where I order my WRX mentioned to me that a cat back "could" void warranty because they may claim that the backpressure has been changed from stock and led to engine issues. Seems they will find a way if they want. For me, no mechanical mods until warranty expires.
Ordered my WRX limited CWP w/ option 22. Estimate delivery in late November.
I have the VON number but many of you mentioned getting the VIN number too? What does it mean when you have the VIN number as opposed to just the VON number?

VON = vehicle order number. This you should receive at time of ordering. It is a sequential number, identifying your particular order, that can be used by dealer or Subaru of America, for info.
VIN = vehicle identification number. This is the number that is on the driver's side dash, near the cowl. It's unique to each individual car.
I received mine, from my salesman, about 3 weeks after ordering, with a refined delivery date.
Throughout the threads and many posts, the different experience folks have, in time frame of receiving either is odd.
It seems like most receive the VON right away, while others wait weeks and some never get it.
Similar is the reception of the VIN. Some get it 3 to 5 weeks after ordering, while others never receive it.
Another factor is which entity your car was ordered from. Subaru of America (SOA) serves most of the country. Then there is Subaru of New England and another, Subaru of the Northeast (or something similar). It seems like folks ordering through SOA get more info, sooner and throughout the process.
Thanks man. Hopefully I receive my VIN soon. Got rear ended last month and my car was totaled so I won't have a car for a while. But I've been looking at the WRX for over a year now so I am beyond excited to join the club. I see that you are from the PNW. I ordered mine at the Eastside Subaru in Kirkland so I am pretty sure they order thru SOA. Looking forward to get to know more people from the PNW on this forum!
Just placed my order for WRB WRX Limited with Package 22. He said delivery is expected sometime in December, so early Christmas gift for myself :woocow:, but such a loooooooong time. I'm going to be trading in my 2016 Civic EX for it and I'm excited to feel the difference from FWD to AWD, since I've always been a Honda guy.
