I'm told by the local Subie dealer (when I went in to get the lower control arms done under recall) that the front sub frame is rusted and needs to be replaced. It IS really badly rusted and I want to replace it so I'm looking into options... I've read the posts on here as far as searching can bring me but didn't really find an answer... I like the Ultra Racing front brace but does it REPLACE the stock one or bolt to it? I'm referring to the actual front "frame" that bolts just behind the rocker panels at the front of the doors and goes up around the front of the motor... please help!!! Slated now to have the dealer replace the stock one for just over $500, on Wednesday... unless I can find an alternative by then.

Bear in mind the subframe (front or rear) maintains some of the critical mounting points for the the suspension, ergo if it is removed or replaced, an alignment is almost certainly required. Frame braces are just that, braces. They do not replace frame components, just tie mounting points together for extra rigidity.

$500 doesn't sound too bad really. You'll get an alignment out of the deal too, so that's a nice perk.
