I have an oppertunity to get a set of STi gold rims and tires. The tires have 7k on them. I've heard that they only have a tread life of only about 10-11k miles. Is this true or would i have to buy new tires in a month or two?

I was under the impression the offset for the STi is different. They won't work on your car. Nix that idea.
The 04 STi wheels are 5x100, they will work on my car. The 05's are the different ones with the 5x114. The wheels i am interested in are off of an 04.

It depends on how hard they have been driven. I have 8,500+ miles on my 100% stock STi (almost a year old) and I still have plenty of tread life left. I would guess another 8k - 10k miles. However, I only drive my car to and from work every few days (normally, the wife and I carpool in the Outback) and short distances on the weekend. No track or drag strip driving. I do not drive aggressively or launch at every light either.
