SPT Exhaust Question

2012 WRX came with factory upgrade SPT quad tipped exhaust. Have read that exhaust rev is a step in the stage mods -- how much more is req'd to bring this factory SPT setup in line with Sage 1 or 2, etc.? Thanks in advance.

This exhaust is just a catback. Catbacks have no effect on stage 2 and performance just aesthetics. The downpipe is what you will be concerned with when going to stage 2.
"stage 1" is cold air or short flow intake + tune

"stage 2" is downpipe + tune

Tune very important here. Don't install any of these parts and drive without an OTS tune using an accessport or an open source tune. Your car will be very unhappy with you and you might break stuff if you drive it hard.
OK. Is a downpipe mod compatible with the spt exhaust, or am I looking at a total exhaust package if I were to do a stage 2?
You can buy a downpipe that will mate to the factory exhaust but you have to get the car tuned for it.

Are there any power gains with the SPT Exhaust ?

Not at'll. To be honest I don't recommend the SPT exhaust to anyone. There are far better aftermarket exhausts for the money/performance.
Nope

REP+ but given the limit already, sorry
It's no problem sir. Any exhaust that is cat back doesn't have a measurable effect on power. They also won't require a tune.

The downpipe is where the power is made, it will require an ecu recalibration.

So did Subaru de-tune (restrict airflow) the downpipe to keep the noise low?
No. I've never spent much time investigating the restriction there outside of the 2.5" pipe and cat. But an aftermarket downpipe flows much better and even with ots tunes from cobb the power change is noticeable

You think the SPT exhaust would be less restrictive which would provide better air flow.
Nope

Pricey exhaust just to have a little throaty sound and STI etched on the exhaust tip.
Yeah basically. That's why few people own them unless it was a factory option

I would never spend the money on anything SPT, except for the STS. I mean they do sound good. But you could get an invidia or any other aftermarket catback for a lesser price.
I'd jump on it for that price, a stainless exhaust for $500 is a bargain! I ordered my car with the STP exhaust, I like the sound, it's actually louder than a another WRX I saw that had an aftermarket exhaust.
