So i bought my WRX 3 wks ago and have been loving it. One night i was bored and checked the vin number and it came up as a 2.5l manual awd 4 door sedan. But when i had my vehicle inspected at my local shop, that have written down 2.0 litre turbo. A stage 2 clutch has been installed as well as an upgraded intercooler, short shift 5 speed, and has all the stabilizer bars ( one in the turnk, one under the hooD). sway bars ect. I feel like it has allot of horsepower and torque still. But when i looked online at the 02 RS interior , it matched mine exactly. SO is it an RS or WRX?!?!?! IS it an RSWRX lol? not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. also i was wondering why my insurance was not going up by much. let me know pleasse!

These are just a few pics of the body. Its dark out right now, but tomorow ill snap some pics of under the hood and the inside of the car. im almost positive i have the exct interior of the RS. says subaru on steering wheel instead of subaru embloom . Plus i just looked at the floor mats that were in the trunk and it says 2.5 RS.

There should be a little plate under the hood on the driver side that tells lists the paint color, vin and most importantly the engine.
If it says ej205 then it's a WRX. ej25....something RS.

yup engine vin starts with ej25. So originally it was and RS. But it has wat seems to be all the features of wrx. All the stabilizer and sway bars, turbo, upgraded clutch and intercooler. Euro tour big o tires. Just not sure if this is bad thing or good thing. I am getting cheaper insurance since it was an RS. I thought i read somewhere that quite a few people will convert the RS to WRX because its cheaper.

Yes and no... and depending on the insurance.
If you list the mods..... probably not. If you dont and your car gets hit/stolen. They'll pay for the rs stuff.


Oh and stabalization bars didn't come stock.

lol i know the bars didnt come stock thats why i was saying it the person fully converted it including stabilizer and sway bars. Got to my buddys shop this morning and he said that it has to be pushing close to 300hp and im still gettin 22mpg on avg. So for the most part im still pretty satisfied

It's bad that it was sold to you under the impression that it was a WRX and it's not. That is very very shady dealing. I would be going back to whoever you bought it from and ask some serious questions. You basically paid BWM money for a Ford (in a sense).

As long as the car is mechanically sound and it is running on the correct ECU and tune you should be fine. Did your friend do a extensive check of the car? Or, did he just look at it and say "It's got 300 AWHP!?! HERP DERP" (no offense). If the car hasn't been inspected then I would be taking it to a certified Subaru technician for a full car inspection to check it's health.

i wasnt told that it was a WRX. I saw it. Assumed it was. all emblooms were taken off the turnk. They even printed car fax for me and right at the top it says subaru 2.5l RS which i didnt even think to look for. I test drove it. Took it took my Japanese Specialist mechanic shop, who are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and trustworthy and they hadnt even realized it was a 2.5l RS because it has the 2.0 litre turbo charged wrx engine and intercooler and everything. I literally just picked it up from them after dropping it off last night and they said all the vin numbers match and did a full inspection on the mileage history. it was definetly a RS before but he said it has been fully converted into a wrx. Ive driven 2,000 miles on it and not a single rattle or knock. Fluids are stable. They told me it was putting out around 300 HP. Im geussing they have a pretty accurate way of telling. Only paid $8,000 for the car at 100,000k. So its not like i was paying in the dbl digits. The stage 2 clutch is fairly new. the engine is fairly new. So none of this was illegal. I got the title today and tags and all that good stuff. Lucked out in my mind..

Also on my carfax sheet it says it was inspected by an authorized subaru dealer 5 days before i got it. I just called them and they verified all the info i was given and said All if the converting work has been done in the last 30,000 miles or so. i bought this car from a licensed dealer, so im not to worried about it at this point. ill keeop yall updated

yeah for sure. i feel like i kinda got a good deal on this. Am i able to upgrade and modify everything just like i stock WRX? im still very new to these cars and am curious if i can still do most of the mods

It sounds like its not stock, have someone who knows subarus tell you what parts are aftermarket and datalog it.

That will give you an idea where to go next if it is putting down anything close to 300hp it is likely already tuned.
